Re-issue Dinobot Giftset

We all agree that the US releases failed due to "inconsistent Prices" or should I say way too high prices?  I do believe that there's still market in Us for reissues.  The problem IMHO relies in what Hasbro wants to offer as reissues and what the Fans really want.  I bought Prime, Magnus and Rodimus Major without hessitating at all, and the seekers.  Now, skids, Grapple,Hoist, Inferno were not the best choices for reissues.  We are still waitin for sideswipe, and I though we could have seen Wheeljack or even Sunstreaker...

So, the Dinobots? I know there is market for a reissue of the G1 dinobots, but until whoever makes this decisions  sees the light, it's not gonna happen.

Where's Soundwave, Predaking, the Insecticons, etc.?  Takara has them, so hasbro can or could have them, but once again whoever has the final word definitely has to do some research.

Wow nothing like making a guy cry. I had all of the dinobots as a kid and lets just say there not mint anymore. I would love to see the dinobots reissued but you know what they say: wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up faster

My thinking on the whole Hasbro re-issue thing is they were just to damn cheap looking. I think there were actually 5 or 6 that could trully be called re-issues with a few minor things like non-firing missles, etc. The rest didn't have chrome weapons, extremely long missles, or no smoke stacks. I payed the same prices for my Japanese ones with shipping sometimes even cheaper than the TRU versions(except the bigger guys). Another thing is they were all heavily over-ordered. Sideswipe even sat around for 6 months or better where I live. If thats what they would do to all my favorites then I don't want to see any more Hasbro re-issues. Unless they can do a character without compromising him. thank you US safety laws and whoever the kid is who poked his eye out with a missle. Its probably your fault that US won't allow lifelike toy guns anymore either.(we miss u G1 megatron)

How much does it cost to make an alternator? I think I saw more reissues in one store than all the alternators, except smokescren, siting on shelves. Yet, they can make a profit with alternators?

The Alternators move and the reissue sat on the shelf until they dicounted them. That's why the Alts bring in profit.

I woulda bought more (any) Hasbro reissues if they were the chars I wanted -- which unfortunately were Megatron, Soundwave, Jets, cassettes -- and the boxes weren't always torn up here or there.  Finally got a Smokescreen today at $11 since it was the first pretty nice box I'd seen at all.  Ain't seen any o' these $2.50 or $6 prices at all.  My impression is that the reissues have cleared out pretty well around here, at least for all the popular characters.  I can find chars like Hoist and Inferno for $10-11 but I'm not exactly gunning for those chars, hehe..

So do you mean the plastic is cheaper? I see people sometimes say new toys feel "cheap". Well it's been 20 years, new metals aren't being invented but new plastics and polymers, etc, constantly are being invented. I think the plastic they use now is lighter weight BUT higher quality as far as breakage goes. It may "feel" cheap, but it's better plastic and maybe it costs more or less, I don't know much about the cost of wholesale plastic sto be honest. What do you know about the subject?

None, and thankfully I haven't had the opportunity to observe a "break test."  But I do know that the plastic certainly LOOKS cheaper than the originals.  A perfect example is Starscream.  I bought 3 (2 for friends), and in all of them you could see the swirls in the plastic from where the dye wasn't 100% even.  The 1984 Starscream was solid gray.  While it may in fact be stronger, lighter plastic, it looks like garbage.  Since most buyers of the reissues are getting them for display purposes (with "occasional" transformations, let's not kid ourselves :tflaugh ) and not rough-and-tumble play, looks are rather important.

[X-Bob]Takara is better[/X-Bob]

Anyway, on a more serious note, what Hellion said about dye jobs being inconsistent is true -- even my C-Prime has a LOT of swirls from where the dye was injected in the red and blue parts of his body. It's weird how as technology gets more "advanced", things look WORSE sometimes. :wtf

But if Hasbro did destroy most of the original Dinobot molds, there's almost zero chance of reissues.

    • EDIT 2: Okay, I think my real problem with this was the marketing image. The main image shows four robot turtles standing together, so I was ready for four toys, not one. Admittedly, I was so disappointed that I did not bother to read the article fully. That's my fault. I apologize. That said, now that I understand it is THE van that turns into a robot, not "robot versions of the four turtles," that makes more sense, but I don't get the four heads. There are images here of a bandana free head which I gather is not included. I would actually prefer a non-specific generic turtle head for the robot. I think that would remove a lot of confusion. At least for me. EDIT 1: My bad, I misunderstood. It's one toy with swappable heads. So, you made a thing based on a four member team, and you only want to sell one toy? You're not even trying to get people to "Collect all FOUR!" You do understand how toy sales work, right? Original Comment: This is a perfectly fine idea executed TERRIBLY. You made four unique toys, each specific to each of the Ninja Turtles, that all turn into the same vehicle? It would be one thing if they joined together to form the van. There have been transformer sets like that before. This is just wasted opportunity. Not to mention, that van exists for the turtles to ride in together as a team, so if they can turn into vehicles ... what do they need a van for? I get that that's their van, and that's cute and all, but ... this is just dumb and disappointing. Why not think about what kind of car each of them would drive based on their personalities, or ask some car company if they want to do a tie-in promotional? What do I want with four copies of the same van and no one to ride in any of them? It makes no sense.
