back in the fold

after the death of optimus in the movie, i just couldn't bear to watch the show anymore --> that and the fact that i was 13-14 for seasons 3 & 4 and probably thought i was too cool at that point for a "mere" cartoon.

it wasn't until the last 6 months or so that i really paid attention to transformers again; partly due to disposable income, but alot due to nostalgia (which seems to get more & more pronounced as i approach the big 3-0). when i found out about the 20th anniv. prime i had to have it; after getting it i realized that (1) i stink at transforming things w/o instructions now and (2) when its your own money, you sure do spend a lot more care in transforming things.

i've limited my tf stuff to just the alt/binaltech line b/c i have too much clutter from other nostalgic items. but all said, i'm glad that 20 years later, parts of my childhood still remain.

i know this may sound blasphemous to some, but did any of you ever leave the transformers world and just come back recently (like me)?

I just started collecting in january. I was never honestly that interested in BW or RID but after seeing the car I drive in real live as a transformer (ALT smokescreen), I decided to buy a couple for old times sake. Now I cant stop :D

TF Robots in Disguise brought me back.

R.I.D was what brought me back to the light as well. I was in college and bored as hell one day, and caught R.I.D on Fox Kids...LOL. Anyways that is what brought everything back to me.

how was that show anyway. never watched it. did catch BW once and it did bother me to think of the transformers as "animals"

TF never really left me I just got involved in other things. It wasnt until I saw 20th Anniversary Prime that I got back into the fold so to speak. So I can thank 20th Anniversary Prime for ressurecting the TF kid within me. Now that I'm lucky to have him and when the funds are more avalible its back to collecting my beloved TF.

TF Robots in Disguise brought me back.

Same here. Except it brought me back once the line was practically over. I was lucky to find the three Super Autobot Bros at London Drugs (they're not exactly a toy store, which is probably why they persisted for so long). Unfortunately, they got me hooked again. I now have all the RiD original molds (Yellow Landfill, though, not original. But I like this one better, anyways) except for Megatron/Galvatron, plus I have the Predacon 3 pack. Maybe I'll get Skybyte soon, too, I think my local comic shop still has a few. I left Transformers pretty much after the first wave of BW Transmetals (so no, I didn't leave for long)

I want Anniversary Prime, but I'm waiting for the black gun variant to show his face (I know he's there, but the Wal-Mart nearby only has the grey at the moment), plus I need some cash first.

And Energon right now is kicking my ass. I now own every basic mold released in western Canada to date, and am short only Snowcat on the deluxe front. I want Ironhide and Jetfire badly, and am awfully tempted on Landmine as well.

Alternators are really cool for the novelty value, and because they're so sporadic in their release, I can probably afford to be a completist (or almost a completist. No point in #7 Smokescreen, IMO). They don't hold a candle to Energon in terms of fun-factor, though, but they're definitely still cool.

I never really left, but I almost did on numerous occasions. Hasbro was doing a crappy job on transformers in the late 80's/early 90's, and Gen 2 didn't help any. I have always had a place in my heart for the early G1 transformers, which were more vehicle than robot( I loved that concept!). I left transformers on the backburner for a while, but with the advent of the binaltech/alternators/masterpiece lines, as well as finding this message board, I came back to " a world transformed, where things are not what they seem." By the way, is it just me, or does the artwork on the back of the Early G1 boxes rock?!

    • Please tell me this won't be the only release of TFP Cliffjumper...
    • If you've not had your fill of Transformers collaborative news today, here is some more with a leaked product listing for the Project Knight: Transformers X Knight Rider crossover. We've been dreaming of this one, and it appears a transforming K.I.T.T. will be coming as soon as August! It must be something big and or special with a $49. - Read the Full News Story
    • Tonight on GotBot Goes Live, we talked Transformers news for the newest multipack and some reissues. We also talked collaboratives with TMNT, an Ectotron reissue and, maybe, even Star Wars? Plus, we address the MP Ginrai teaser image and answer who is Riggorus?
    • EDIT 2: Okay, I think my real problem with this was the marketing image. The main image shows four robot turtles standing together, so I was ready for four toys, not one. Admittedly, I was so disappointed that I did not bother to read the article fully. That's my fault. I apologize. That said, now that I understand it is THE van that turns into a robot, not "robot versions of the four turtles," that makes more sense, but I don't get the four heads. There are images here of a bandana free head which I gather is not included. I would actually prefer a non-specific generic turtle head for the robot. I think that would remove a lot of confusion. At least for me. EDIT 1: My bad, I misunderstood. It's one toy with swappable heads. So, you made a thing based on a four member team, and you only want to sell one toy? You're not even trying to get people to "Collect all FOUR!" You do understand how toy sales work, right? Original Comment: This is a perfectly fine idea executed TERRIBLY. You made four unique toys, each specific to each of the Ninja Turtles, that all turn into the same vehicle? It would be one thing if they joined together to form the van. There have been transformer sets like that before. This is just wasted opportunity. Not to mention, that van exists for the turtles to ride in together as a team, so if they can turn into vehicles ... what do they need a van for? I get that that's their van, and that's cute and all, but ... this is just dumb and disappointing. Why not think about what kind of car each of them would drive based on their personalities, or ask some car company if they want to do a tie-in promotional? What do I want with four copies of the same van and no one to ride in any of them? It makes no sense.
