Energon Rodimus Review

Behold, Galvatron!

Recommended Posts

One of the most anticipated Energon Transformers is here at last! Rodimus, a clear homage to the G1 Rodimus Prime is a Wave 2 Deluxe retailing at $9.99. Is he worth it? Find out....

I will be spilting this review into three parts: Vehicle Mode, Robot Mode and Powerlinx. Please wait until all three posts are up before replying (so that the review is in a straight line)

Vehicle Mode: Looks like a furturistic drag racer truck. Serveral nice nods to the orginal Rodimus are present here including the flames on the hood, the spoiler (although its not yellow). Rodimus's gun can attach to the spoiler so it looks like he has more engine power. The back of the truck also has a small hitch to tow a trailer. Maybe an addon trailer will be released in the future a la Overload? Either way, very nice vehicle mode 9/10

Robot Mode:

Transformation is akin to Hero Prime/Destructucion Scourge with a few more extra steps like adjusting the feet and flipping out the hands.

If the vehicle had some homage touches, this Robot mode has it all! VERY SIMILAR to G1 Rodiimus from the head to the chest, the colors. HE IS LOVE! New touches like the massive shoulders and lower legs are nice touches.

Possability wise, he ranks 2nd in the Energon Deluxe Autobots behind Inferno (don't have Prowl so he's not considered). Rodimus has ball jointed elbows, shoulders and head, upper arms are on a left to right swivel, full knee and leg articulation. Sounds good right? Kinda. his legs cannot move all the way forward due to the flap in front of them. However the flap can move up so his legs can, it just looks a little werid with the flap being so high up...

The gun has lots of detail as well.Overall great mode 9/10

Powerlinx Rodimus Mode:

Powerlinxed him to Hot Shot. Figured it be fitting :tfgrin

This is when he serves as the upper body. To put it bluntly,it sucks, No elbows in arm mode and there is little to none painted detail. Still nice touch with the orange spoiler for the shoulders and as a statue he does look pretty cool. Still very poor 4/10

Powerlinx Hot SHot

This is where he shines, Powerlinx wise as Rodimus makes a good lower half with full leg articulation. Looks great with Hot Shot 7/10

Later Ill put up a pic of Rodimus powerlinked with....RODIMUS?! One of my dorm hall buddies has a Rodimus(courtesy of me :) ) so Ill PL them and post a pic later tonight...

Overall

This is one great fig. SOme of the possablitiy problems are a little annoying but this is pretty minor. An improvement over the wave 1 Deluxe Autobots and a must buy.9/10

Oh wow. I never even thought about self linking before Remy's Prowl gallery, and now I almost want to go out and buy 2 of every powerlinx toy just so I can do that.

Yeah i feel the same way. Might be a good way too sell repaints too :thumb

    • Please tell me this won't be the only release of TFP Cliffjumper...
    • If you've not had your fill of Transformers collaborative news today, here is some more with a leaked product listing for the Project Knight: Transformers X Knight Rider crossover. We've been dreaming of this one, and it appears a transforming K.I.T.T. will be coming as soon as August! It must be something big and or special with a $49. - Read the Full News Story
    • Tonight on GotBot Goes Live, we talked Transformers news for the newest multipack and some reissues. We also talked collaboratives with TMNT, an Ectotron reissue and, maybe, even Star Wars? Plus, we address the MP Ginrai teaser image and answer who is Riggorus?
    • EDIT 2: Okay, I think my real problem with this was the marketing image. The main image shows four robot turtles standing together, so I was ready for four toys, not one. Admittedly, I was so disappointed that I did not bother to read the article fully. That's my fault. I apologize. That said, now that I understand it is THE van that turns into a robot, not "robot versions of the four turtles," that makes more sense, but I don't get the four heads. There are images here of a bandana free head which I gather is not included. I would actually prefer a non-specific generic turtle head for the robot. I think that would remove a lot of confusion. At least for me. EDIT 1: My bad, I misunderstood. It's one toy with swappable heads. So, you made a thing based on a four member team, and you only want to sell one toy? You're not even trying to get people to "Collect all FOUR!" You do understand how toy sales work, right? Original Comment: This is a perfectly fine idea executed TERRIBLY. You made four unique toys, each specific to each of the Ninja Turtles, that all turn into the same vehicle? It would be one thing if they joined together to form the van. There have been transformer sets like that before. This is just wasted opportunity. Not to mention, that van exists for the turtles to ride in together as a team, so if they can turn into vehicles ... what do they need a van for? I get that that's their van, and that's cute and all, but ... this is just dumb and disappointing. Why not think about what kind of car each of them would drive based on their personalities, or ask some car company if they want to do a tie-in promotional? What do I want with four copies of the same van and no one to ride in any of them? It makes no sense.
