Whoa...and this topic is still on the first page! Impressive.

You all know I'm a diehard Geewunner, but I'm able to separate the past from the present. I want G1? I watch my DVDs of it, that's that. And hell, I'll just go play with my Energon toys since it's as close to G1 goodness as the line's ever gotten.

But I'm not gonna Starscream that G1's never coming back completely the way it was -- the only close thing is the comic book license.

I'm happy, however, with what we DO have -- Alternators. Basically, the line was HasTak's way of saying "thank you" to the devoted fans who've supported the line for 20 years. They're the pinnacle of transforming robot design, they look awesome, and have articulation that far outdoes any previous TF toy line's. And there's plenty of G1 homages -- I just got Silverstreak the other day, and sure, he isn't the same car, but he's a dead ringer for the original character -- and unlike the old toy, he isn't a little statue with moving arms. And you can Starscream about stuff like Wheeljack having blue racing stripes instead of a green and red motif, but at least they gave him a racing design, period -- and that's enough of an homage for me in his case. I've said it before, I'll say it again -- Alternators isn't G1 -- it's a toy-line that draws inspiration from G1 and it's what the original toys would have looked like if done with today's engineering and toy design.

The one thing I've noticed about G1 (and BW & RID for that matter) is that the characters in the cartoons actually had some character. Continuity is important (see Power Rangers - each colour has a different trait) for kids & fanboys alike. Armada and Energon cartoons are crap & although the toys are good, they have no personality.

Gobots kick ass though. I've got the E-Hobby Minibot repaints & they're one of the most popular sets, and rarer than rocking-horse sh!t The Gobot G1 toys are much better quality than G1 TF's but they failed to appeal to the kids at the time, me included. Why? Cos the cartoon sucked.

Kids then:

TF=cool

Gobots=crap

Kids now:

PR=cool

TF=crap
