Maybe someone can explain this to me...

My Alt. Mode Sucks

Recommended Posts

Recently, within the past two years or so, I've seen several G1 "Goodbye, Megatron!" sets on eBay and various online import stores. WTF is up with the whole goodbye thing? Is it one of those typical freaky bad Japanese translations, or is there meaning behind it?

OK, slight addendum: SOMEONE BESIDES BOB explain it to me.

You basically answered your own question.  It marked the departure of Megatron  (and Starscream I guess)

In case you didn't know, there was a Goodbye Convoy too (with Mirage and Red alert)

Red alert? OK...considering he had nothing to do with the show after his whopping 3 or so episodes in season 2, that makes less sense...it'd be smarter to put Hot Rod or Rodimus in a pack with Convoy in that case, but whatever. I was just overwhelmed by the WTF factor of the name.

Goodbye Convoy and Goodbye Megatron were special sets effectively saying good bye to the characters since they were being replaced.

The Convoy set is special in that it (tmk) is the only time Mirage and Red alert were released during the original Japanese G1 run, thus making more sense than Hot Rod since both the characters were featured on the cartoon.

Both sets featured posters and the Megatron set had differences on both Megatron and Starscream from their regular releases

Both Ligier (Mirage) and alert (Red alert) were also available as regular releases in Japan (Ligier was 07, alert 05).

However, the "Good Bye Convoy" set marked the last EVER use of the Mirage mold to this very day.
