Okie Dokie, let's try to get this to make sense...

 

A question arose either here or on another board about Primal possibly becomming a Prime.  It was debated a bit & dismissed.

 

My thoughts of this changed while re-watching S3 BW the other day.  In TF:TM, Hot Rod got the matrix & was choosen as the newest Prime. He grew & changed shape while holding the matrix inorder to become Rodimus Prime. 

 

In the first episode in S3 of BW, Primal harboured Prime's spark so that Prime can be repaired.  Primal grew & changed shape in a slightly similar way as Hot Rod did (not to say he'd look like Rodimus, but their bodies grew).  Same when BW Megs took G1 Megs spark. 

 

Just focusing on Primal and the Autobot Matrix, does this mean that Primal could have been selceted by the matrix?  He did go through the same transformation when HR grasp the Matrix.

You said it yourself - the same thing happened to Megatron when he grabbed G1 Megs' spark. Therefore the thing that made them change was the presence of two sparks in their bodies at the same time.

 

Plus, Optimal Optimus *stayed* Optimal Optimus after Prime's spark was returned to him. Rodimus Prime reverted to Hot Rod when the matrix left him.

i ve not watched it in ages but dint primal just carry primes spark not the matrix itself. roddie had the matrix not the spark of prime (tho primes spark may have merged with the matrix on death) so his transformation was a little different

i believe the change in primal was spark induced, not matrix induced =)

Not in every episode though.  In one, he revert to Hot Rod, and in the next frame he was Rodimus again!  :P

To get REALLY fanboyish, notice Rodimus' spoiler in TF:TM when he super-sizes... it's different b/c the toy's spoiler is different.

In the TV show they just used Hot Rod's spoiler. In fact, I think the only difference between Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime in the TV show was the lines on his face.)

The only problem is that the Japanese equate "Primal" and "Prime" (i.e. calling both "Convoy"), which is incorrect, since "Primal" is a name, not a title.
