Hurry Up and Wait - New USPS Changes to Slow Delivery and Increase Rates

Tired of slow postal deliveries? Well, it is likely to get worse because US Postal Service is making operating changes starting today, October 1st, that are believed will delay delivery times. It is expected that delivery times that used to take 2-days, may now increase to 3 or more days according to a report by CNET.

As someone who used to work for the Postal Service, and have an entire family that still does, including one that's a post master, the P.O., sucks. My brother told me that they can't keep any help these days because they treat people like crap. They did that to me and I walked. It doesn't surprise me at all. They pay really well, but there's a limit to the abuse people will take, and now we all pay the price. I could tell you stories that would make you outraged that they were bailed out of their dept. recently by the Federal Government. They waste so much money, they should be investigated for fraud, according to my family that's the post master.

I'd like to hear more stories on this.  

I have one an issue with this organization.  Where I live, the postal service is getting rid of all mailboxes in favor of community pickup locations. You know those mail boxes sitting in front of your house that have your address on them, yeah, those are going away.

So just coming to a logical conclusion: the goal is to not deliver mail to the address, a specific address, just someplace nearby.  So far I've had to pay for multiple keys because if they get lost, we're responsible for getting into their box.  And if we don't have time to run out to the mailbox because of 2 year olds and bad weather, working long hours, whatever, if the community mailbox fills up then they just take all the mail and hold it and won't bring it back to our address until we claim it.  

When I was a kid, there was a mailbox attached to the exterior of my house.  My grandparents had mail slits in their front doors.  

These changes just seem to defeat the purpose of serving the public.  I mean, this is a service funded by the government that we the people are taxed to pay for.  Well they aren't serving my needs, and yet, I'm still forced to pay.

If there was any way to fire the people making these calls then sign me up.  If I can get more funds into the hands of smart people that want to serve the public (above the needs of a fiscal goal) then sign me up for that.  It seems like that people forget that this is a service, and not a business.

The theory that organizations run better in a for-profit-model is bogus.

@God SunstreakerOh crap, that would REALLY suck to have to leave your house to get your mail. Would that include packages too?

It does yes.  Small packages can fit in the community mailbox locker specific to your address.  The community mail box also has a larger locker for larger packages.

If the package is big enough they'll deliver it right to the door though.

So anyone reading this, if anyone sends me a letter send it in a 2' x 2' box.  

When amazon was using USPS we got packages all the time.  But Amazon has its own delivery trucks now.  I'm wondering if between losing that Amazon income and people using email overtime they don't have the volume of mail to fund their systems.  I just seems like a smart, forward thinking person would make the case that taxes need to be redirected and stamps are not a viable way to fund the Postal Service staff paychecks anymore.  Although the debat of Capitalist strategies to fund services is a larger discussion.
