2005 Chronicles: Chapter 0

Recommended Posts

It is the year 2005.

The Autobots have been successful in driving the menace of the Decepticons into the farthers uninhabitable reaches of the galaxy. Revitalized by the return of their greatest leader Optimus Prime and bolstered by the rebirth of several fallen comrades, the Autobots now enjoy a new golden age of discovery and exploration on Cybertron and beyond. Many of the Autobots have chosen to stay on Cybertron, but a small detachment led by Prime have returned to Earth aboard the Ark-V in order to create a defense net with the world's governments in the event of extraterrestrial threat to either planet.

But all is not well...

Galvatron, driven even more mad by visions of his deceased master Unicron and plagued by insanity far beyond his capabilities, has purged the reformatting process from his system, reverting himself back to Megatron. Other Decepticons rebuilt by Unicron have done the same, changing them back to their old forms and names. Still blinded with anger by defeat at the hands of Prime and looking for a way to rebuild his ranks, Megatron has fished Starscream's comatose body from the black hole he was imprisoned in and revived him. Although aware of Starscream's treacherous ways and backstabbing actions, Megatron cannot fault his efficiency as an Autobot-killing machine and--much to the chagrin of Soundwave--his input as second-in-command. In order to appease the rogue Decepticon into following his orders, Megatron has rewarded a detachment of warriors under Starscream's command and sent them to Earth as the front line of the new Decepticon warfleet. Chief among Starscream's brigade are the Combaticons and his lieutenants--Thundercracker and Skywarp. Megatron remains behind on the Nemesis III, his body constantly reformatting itself in order to eliminate all traces of Unicron's mark. Whether or not this will be successful remains to be seen.

Meanwhile...

Optimus has been having visions of an approaching war. The Matrix of Leadership glows with warning every night, forcing Prime into action. Taking the initiative, Optimus contacts the EDC and forms a pact between them and the Autobots. Using the Ark-V as home base and the EDC facilities as training and emergency medical grounds, Optimus hopes to show the humans what good the Autobots can do. The EDC hopes to harness Cybertronian technology for their own use so they don't have to rely on the Autobots. Optimus shares that hope, but knows it is a long way before they can fully understand the tech. Realizing their units are stretched thin and communications with Cybertron extremely sketchy at best, Optimus commissions Wheeljack and Ratchet to create a new detachment of Autobot warriors, trained in the art of Earthbound fighting and completely loyal to both Cybertron and Earth.

All of this leads to the creation of a brand-new kind of Autobot...

Part #2

Under the command of Ironhide, a new detachment of Autobots has been formed. Created entirely on Earth, these new warriors are the first line of attack in the war that Prime fears is drawing near. They are:

Strikeback Primary Function: Advanced Urban Assault Tactics

Stronger and faster than the average Autobot, Strikeback functions as the unofficial "leader" of the group whenever Ironhide isn't there. Is fiercely protective of his crew, and will injure or deactivate anyone who brings harm to them. Does his best, but sometimes can be plagued by notions that he can't measure up or maybe he shouldn't be doing this. Holds a grudge against Backstab for personal reasons. Has been trained in several Cybertronian weapons, but prefers to utilize dual customized plasma blasters that can be set to semiauto or full auto. Failing that, he'll pound his opposition into the ground with his fists--and he fights dirty. Transforms into a black 1968 Camaro SS.

Tripper Primary Function: Demolitions

The resident joker of the group. Often regarded as a "spaz" by most of the Autobots and some of the EDC, and what comes out of his mouth may be utterly insane, but gets serious whenever he has a job to do. Holds grudges like nobody's business, even on little things, and sometimes refuses to let go for some reason. This can put him at odds with other 'bots, most notably Sunstreaker and Freeway, but is generally liked by everyone. Knowledgeable in a variety of explosives--both of Earth and Cybertronian origin--and how they work/what damage they do. Utilizes a standard-issue blaster rifle, but often resorts to a heavy-duty Energon cannon whenever things get hairy. Transforms into a yellow Ford GT.

Hothead Primary Function: Frontline Assault/Close Combat Tactics

The second strongest of the group behind Rundown, his speed belies his power. Quite possibly the angriest of the crew, he'll let things get to him until he's at the point where he'll either start lashing out at his friends or keep it locked inside and let it fester. Optimus and the rest of the detachment understand what it is that makes him like this, but often this can affect his work--sometimes for the better if he's ready to vent his anger on some Decepticon. Plays the role of the loner, since he can disappear for days at a time without explanation, but always returns whenever he's needed. Uses a fireball rifle with variable temperature--the hottest can spew balls of flame hot enough to melt most substances, but prefers to pound on the Decepticons with his hands or anything heavy. Transforms into a red Lamborghini Murcielago.

Freewheel Primary Function: Sniper/Long-Range Tactics

Just because she's small and not as strong as the rest doesn't mean she's ineffective. Able to traverse some rough terrain in vehicle mode, she can find the right spot for picking off Decepticons in a matter of minutes, then get out of there before anyone realizes what's going on. Often seen as quiet and maybe even a little timid, she can mix it up as well as most of the other Autobots, and blends in with both the rowdiest and the braniest ones equally--sometimes maybe too well. Is the most popular member of the Earth-based detachment for both Autobot and EDC members. Shares a special history with Strikeback. Uses both a long-range solar-powered sniper rifle and a customized lightweight blaster pistol. Transforms into a modified off-road green Ford Ranger 4x4.

Rundown Primary Function: Heavy Arms Tactics/Search-&-Rescue

The beast of the unit. One of the most powerful normal-sized Transformer, he guards his own like a 'bot possessed, and will harm anyone who even tries to threaten him. Usually barrels over his foes, much like his name implies. There is a rumor going around that his spark once belonged to a fallen Decepticon warrior, but was somehow retrieved and altered by either the EDC or Ratchet and Wheeljack into an Autobot spark--but no one seems to want to question him about it. Is able to traverse even the most rugged and unstable terrain, even if it's in motion. Often goes off-roading alone in order to clear his head. Uses a double-barreled "flak cannon" and two shoulder-mounted multi-missile launchers. His left hand can also retract to reveal an Energon claw for close combat. Transforms into a customized heavy-duty off-road yellow '70s Blazer.

Chillout Primary Function: Strategist/Special Operations

The most patient 'bot and the coolest under pressure, he's actually the brother of Strikeback. During the awakening process, his spark was damaged so pieces of Strikeback's spark were extracted and grafted onto his. Both watch out for each other and for their friends, but feels more at ease around Hothead and Tripper than the rest. Rarely lets things get to him, and keeps his wits about him no matter what. Probably the most level-headed of the Autobots. Is full of ideas and is largely selfless, but can be selfish whenever an idea he deems good applies to him but can disadvantage or hinder others. Often takes these ideas and runs with them, but can also change his mind if he sees what it does to the others. Utilizes an energy "shotgun" and a shoulder-mounted cluster rocket launcher in combat. Transforms into a black 1968 black Dodge Charger R/T.

Airblaze Primary Function: Air Support

Probably would be considered the "outsider" of the crew if not for her friendship with Strikeback and Rundown. Is amicable enough, but just travels in different circles than the rest. One of the fastest in the air, and also one of the quickest to respond. Takes a lot to get her down, and is usually seen with a smile on her face. Alternates between elation and a more low-key happiness, but can be disturbed by the actions of Tripper if he's not thinking. Talks a mile a minute when excited. Prefers to be alone, but welcomes company whenever it comes. Takes the cause seriously, but not so serious that she sees herself as a career soldier like Ironhide. Has a problem with ineffectual leaders, or the leaders that she sees as ineffectual. Uses two forearm-mounted bolt repeaters that fire on automatic--both in robot and vehicle mode. Transforms into a rescue helicopter.

Of course, the Decepticons have prepared a response to this new group...

(NOTE: I'll get pics up of these guys once I draw them. It might be a while, though...school beckons tomorrow. :redface)

Part #3

Starscream's Earthbound unit, anticipating the new kinds of Autobots, has retaliated with a similar kind of Decepticon:

Backstab Primary Function: Sabotage/Espionage

Oringinally concieved as an Autobot counterpart to Strikeback named Backup, Starscream somehow managed to corrupt her programming during their first encounter. Stole the data on how the new Autobots were created, thus allowing for similar Decepticon warriors to be created for Starscream. Faster and more agile than most Transformers. Participates in a bizarre ritual where the wires of her victims are strung through a port in the back of her head and braided together--one of those wires belongs to Strikeback. May or may not still have friends on the Autobots. Uses a lightweight plasma rifle, while inner arms can create Energon "daggers" for close combat or throwing. Transforms into a red Mercedes SLR Roadster.

Soundoff Primary Function: Terrorist

Quite possibly the loudest, brashest Decepticon ever created. Onslaught theorizes that he must love the sound of his own voice, otherwise he wouldn't be this annoying. Talks a good game, but can't back it up half the time--resulting in massive damage to himself and anyone forced to rescue him. Likes to think of himself as a hardened thug, but most see him as a loudmouth braggard who can't get shut up quick enough for everyone. Takes almost everything as a personal challenge or a threat to his 'bothoot. Enjoys cornering others and threatening them whenever he can. Starscream is one of the few who can tolerate him, and one of the few who can keep him in line effectively. Utilizes a self-powered Energon cannon that can be powered up to several different intervals--the most powerful being on the level of a small nuclear blast--and twin wrist "riveters" on either arm. Transforms into a dark purple 1965 Impala lowrider.

Reverb Primary Function: Psychological Warfare/Misinformation

The complete opposite of Soundoff. Is one of the quietest and least assuming Decepticons, but that makes him all the more dangerous. Doesn't speak until he has something to say, and usually what he has to say is damaging. Delights in talking good cheer to someone's face then turning around and feeding negative comments to others about the same person--even fellow Decepticons. Prefers to hide in the shadows and hang back during combat and let his double-speak do the most damage. Is so charismatic that there are still some on the Autobots who don't fully believe that he's all that evil. Uses an energy bolt rifle in combat. Transforms into a silver experimental jet fighter.

Thunder Primary Function: Hit-&-Run Tactics

Personally created by Backstab to serve as her "other," he has started to border on obsessive towards her. One of the largest normal-sized Decepticons, his strength is matched by Hothead. Acts very strangely, almost subservient to Backstab alone--will follow orders from Starscream and others, but will always return to his creator and await more orders. Backstab delights in this and uses him for almost anything she can think of. Glares at others who approach from behind--he's so distrustful of others that many wonder how he can work as effectively as he does while in a group. Uses a customized "sweeper" assault rifle. Transforms into a black Hummer H2.

Backtrack Primary Function: Battlefield Medic/Diversionary Tactics

So "wishy-washy" and bubbleheaded that Starscream wonders why he even keeps her around. Doesn't particularly like combat, but is so effective at quick patch-ups and emergency repairs that she stays on-line longer than most. Dislikes almost all of her team, many wonder why she hasn't defected to the Autobots. Truth is that she joined the Decepticons in order to distance herself from two Autobots, but who they are and why is something she hasn't revealed. Many think Backstab and Reverb played a part in her staying on. Harbors an anger that very few get to see, and is easily annoyed by certain actions--almost all of which are perpetrated by Soundoff. Gets extemely jealous whenever praise is not heaped on her, and often goes out of her way to get it. Utilizes a standard issue blaster rifle whenever coerced into combat, but prefers to sit back and wait until being called. Houses an entire medical tool set within her forearms and on her back. Transforms into an emergency Chevy Blazer rescue transport.

Your fanfic is teh cool :thumb

I like the bios you wrote for these new characters.

I have a few questions though: Is this taking place in the original G1 continuity after TF:TM? And if so, how was Optimus Prime resurrected, along with the other fallen Autobots?

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I'll try and get the artwork up as soon as I can, but so far it's pretty hit or miss on that.

[shamlessplug]Make sure to read Chapter 1![/shamelessplug]

honestly, i like the bios. question: does this take place before or after the rebirth miniseries (season 4)? i ask this because i noticed you mentioned a golden age for cybertron. other than that, it feels like i am watching an episode of the transformers in my head, crappy 80's animation and all.
