Fans can never have enough Soundwave, so they made Soundblaster. The dark mercenary character that always follows close behind, as a toy variant at least. Super7 just announced theirs on Facebook. No info just yet on when or how much, but we have a nice image with a cassette and cool gear guts to look at.

This might be just me, but WHY would you buy a figure of a Transformer (in this instance, Soundblaster) that CANNOT convert, when you can get one that CAN convert into a alt. form, is possibly cheaper, and looks way cooler?

Well, in this specific case, the transparent figures are an homage to Henshin Cyborg, the great granddaddy 1972 toyline Transformers’ lineage can be traced back to. That’s also why they’re called “Super Cyborgs”.

Other times, it might be a character who doesn’t have an official alt mode.

Alpha Trion never transformed in the G1 cartoon, so this figure focuses on maximum animation accuracy instead.

A huge amount of him is die cast metal, and he comes with a bunch of additional parts to change him into the different ages he was shown in the episodes he was in.

This is also the best way to get a better looking robot or alternate mode for existing characters. But probably the main reason is Hasbro or Takara don't license Transforming toys for some unknown reason.

Exactly. Sometimes you just want something kibble-free to display on a shelf in some neat action poses. Good luck putting Selects Nightbird in any cool ninja fights when she has half her altmode hanging off her back.
- Licensing a transforming figure would be direct competition with Hasbro’ down products.

Another situation, sometimes the alt mode just isn’t necessary. Like the recent Dead Optimus Prime. I don’t need that to transform. What am I gonna do, make him a dead truck? He’s going to lay on a slab, looking dramatic. If the money for the tooling to make him transform had been used instead for a light feature, to light up the matrix, or make his eyes flicker out, I would have loved that.

I remember that from "The Toys That Made Us" documentary on Netflix

Maybe threeZero will partner with Hasbro in that for the future.
