G1 Optimus Prime in Powermaster Armor?

I've had the Japanese Powermaster Prime (God Ginrai) mold reissue for years now. This is perhaps my favorite incarnation of the Optimus Prime character (I know the Japanese version isn't really Prime, but besides that). Anyways, I picked up an old Hasbro Powermaster Prime on ebay for 19 bucks free shipping. The buy included the cab and trailer/armor. Toying around with it, I looked at one of my G1 Primes, my Pepsi Prime to be exact and wondered, hmm, would it work.....sure enough, it actually works pretty damn well.

 

I added my Pepsi Prime to my God Ginrai armor, and it looks like it works better than the original Powermaster prime cab with the enlarged head.

 

 

 

The G1 mold fits perfectly into the Powermaster armor, I can't but wonder if the armor was originally intended for the G1 mold, until they decided to go with a new mold for the Powermaster series. Does anyone know if this is true? Am I late in the game to have figured this out? I feel like bonehead for not figuring this out years ago.

Kind of reminds me of Energon Optimus combined with Omega Supreme.
