Hasbro, Inc's released their earnings for the second quarter today and has reported that their net income has dropped 25% when compared to the same period last year due to soft game sales and a drop in the boys' segment. The company reported that sales in the games and boys' segments each dropped eight percent in the quarter, with the latter category dragged down by Transformers and Beyblades. The bright spots are Marvel products due to the high profile Marvel films out this year and Entertainment...Continue reading... Read the Full News Story Here

I don't fell sorry for them one bit. Send overseas and you may get some more profit online, Hasbro

Try also getting the product available overseas might be an idea too

Transformers could only go down. Last year had the DOTM line out at this time. Granted the line itself didn't put out as much, but it was still a lot more than we've gotten this year during the same time period. Transformers over the years has helped Hasbro to some tremendous gains which they then took and squandered it on some of their less successful lines that either struggle or were downright flops. Now that those properties got the hole started, Transformers seem to be getting pulled in along with the rest of the junk.

Retailers struggling isn't exactly helping either. Transformers were performing quite well until the retailers decided they wanted more Optimus and Bumblebee in every single wave they came out with. So not only are they running their own companies into the ground, they are ruining the profits of brands like Transformers by insisting on overproducing the more popular characters until total burn out leaves them littered all over pegs and shelves everywhere not making any money and also making newer figures harder or impossible to get.

Hasbro needs to re-dedicate itself to the fans. Launch the newer lines with more of what fans of the brand have come to expect.

Retailers need to stick to running their stores properly and leave Hasbro to determine what is best for it's product lines. Stop dictating and simply enjoy the successful brands when they come along and trust that the makers know more about the hearts and minds of the fans than they do. If fans crave certain characters, don't overproduce them, leaving people wanting is better than making them sick to death of too much.

Stop thinking in terms of big short term sales and more along the lines of steady long term success. One thing is for sure, that success won't come if some of the better selections never make it to stores in the first place!

Let's see. Thousands of BBs clogging shelves, none of the figures anyone actually wants on shelves and sales are down?

THERE'S NO LOGIC IN THIS!! :redface

When you oversaturate the shelves with unexciting product...when you don't produce enough of the stimulating 'new' product (and in some cases, just don't make it at all!)...when you can't even keep up with your current cartoon series...what does Hasbro expect with Transformers sales? We don't need five versions of Bumblebee in the same series (even kids aren't that gullible)...we don't really need duplicate lines running concurrently in different scales...we actually would like to see the characters in the cartoons that kids, parents and collectors watch together, we expect them to be cast into toys & then stocked on the shelves, but apparently that's asking too much as well. As far as toy sales and marketing goes, Hasbro dropped the ball with Animated, is lagging far behind in Prime, chopped up the Classics/Universe/Generations lines every time another Bay movie came around, and speaking of, gambled too much on extended movie-related merchandise beyond theatrical release. And that's just some of the standout mistakes, IMHO.

I can't really speak for Beyblades or any of the Marvel stuff, but if they're handling Beyblades the same, and are counting on Marvel to take them years beyond the theatrical release, then again...what does Hasbro expect?

Maybe they should start listening to their core consumers more, and perhaps mix up their account management a bit...they need to do something, 'cause what they're doing ain't workin'.

Well lets see...Less GI Joe stuff, Less Transformers items...lower sales....sounds like it makes sense to me...if you produce less you will sell less...oh and the fact that the characters people want are short shipped and the characters that everyone already has or is sick of seeing is over produced. Probably didn't help that one of the most anticipated movies that would have driven sales way higher GI Joe retaliation was posponed......

With FOC coming out and the new figures along with the MP Figures hitting soon...next quarter they will post a 25% increase over last year....it's not exactly all in the numbers it's how you understand how they got the numbers that tells you what happened.

*shrug* This happens every year after a movie. Shouldn't be a surprise by now.

Naysayers gonna naysay.
