TF Animated cartoon coming to hub in July

Let's not stop at Blitzwing and Shockwave. I still hold Blurr and Prowl as two of the highest standards a DLX toy can attain--especially Prowl, who is so ridiculously ingenious that it boggles the mind. You get so used to bikeformers cheating or carrying obstrusive bits of bike kibble and along comes the Animated Prowl mold, to show everyone what a bikeformer should be all about. No bike kibble, obstrusive or otherwise, crazy poseability and personality.

Blitzwing would have been better if his parts locked into place. I wanted to like the toy, but it just didn't work out. Shockwave was okay, but there wasn't much to that transformation. I still wish there was a voyager Thundercracker. I don't know why, but I really like that jet design and the robot mode. Blurr was a very impressive toy.

Never got any Animated toys... that show was on during my "too old for toys" phase...

1) Hell to the NO with the "Animated Ultimate" DVD set. I don't want to ditch my S1 and S2 sets. S2 was a BITCH to find. Just give me an S3 set and I'll be a happy camper.

2) It's obviously a difference of opinion, but Animated > Cybertron. There's several reasons. First, the translation from Galaxy Force to Cybertron was boned up. Second, a short list:

Metroplex

Menosaur

Override

Unicron

Thundercracker/Skywarp

Lugnutz

Brimstone

Backstop

Crumplezone

All mediocre to terrible figures. The only mediocre to terrible figure that comes to mind in Animated is Jetstorm/Jetfire. I could go on, but I'll stop there.

Yes, Animated is a singular canon and it's hard to adapt the figures to a subsequent line. However, isn't that the goal of a toymaker? To make each series so vastly different from the last that the new toys would be sought after? How many Cybertron figures were recycled into a new line? Not very many that I can think of. Certainly none of the real popular figures. I don't get the Animated bashing. All I can boil it down to is that it was so cut from the cloth that those who despise change just automatically despised Animated. Personally, I'll always have a place in my heart for cel animated versus CGI.

As for Prime, I have liked the series so far. It's not perfect, and the CGI is soulless at times, but I think it's a fine add to the TF universe. For Transformers to survive as a franchise, they constantly need to change the aesthetics. Not just with the shows, but with the figures and the premise as well. If they had the same backstory or recycled said back story over and over, the show would be done. Let go of the old, embrace the new.

Except in 3 seasons, Animated had the least amount of figures for a series, Animated was a failure that is why it got canceled. Nobody likes to accept it, but its true

17 Activators

9 Bumper Battlers

25 Deluxe Figures

5 Leaders

6 Store Exclusives

1 Supreme

12 Voyagers

69 Total releases that is sad for such a show, that is claimed ti be great., yet something as mediocre as Cybertron? 100 figures in a shorter amount of time, and none canceled

Animated was a failure Blitz, I still remember Animated sitting on shelfs well into last year. The biggest shelf warmer was Soundwave, and bulkhead

I don't know the exact count, but you're wrong about store exclusives. There were at least 8. TRU had 4 and so did Target.

Ahhhhhhhh...Animated. How I miss you. Some things seem to just go on forever, while the very best are taken from us...

...while they are young.

Animated is the single best show I've seen outside of G1/S1. There have been other good/great shows (Beast Wars, TF: Prime), but only Animated was able to make the TF universe as fun now as it was back in '84 when this was all new. Only Animated could show me their wares ala Sofia Vergara, and make my jaw hit the floor. Only Animated could make me feel like a kid again and make me run to the T.V. set or to the store. This is a prescient proclamation right off the bat, because we are talking about a franchise that is supposed to be just that (FUN), before it is anything else.

Episode after episode after episode, Animated picked up the ball and did their best Barry Sanders impersonation, scoring touchdown after touchdown, and basically making the Bayverse look juvenile, sloppy and all-around inferior by comparison. Animated told a very complex story in spite of all the flak the show gets, and made certain characters relevant again. This show made me love both Optimus Prime and Ratchet--characters I previously hated. It somehow made me love Starscream, Shockwave and Megatron even more. It introduced elements into the TF universe that have been or will become canonical. I almost cannot imagine any other iteration of Shockwave, Ratchet or Blitzwing being as unique and awesome as they were in Animated. For all the flak the designs get, the Animated mechs looked more alien than any other iteration of the TFs by virtue of the fact that they were so organic in appearance, and yet were able to transform--TRANSFORM, not MORPH--into a standard, earth-borne vehicle. Animated also did something other incarnations of the TF Universe are unable or unwilling to do:

Be different. Be unique.

It had something for the fan who has been one since '84 or just became one in 2012, and I strongly suspect that this is because the show was written by people who LOVE THE TRANSFORMERS. And that is not a feeling that I immediately get from almost every other iteration of the TF universe. The people who put the Animated universe together obviously loved TFs and loved what they were doing, which makes Animated, IMHO, the TF equivalent of a Zepp or Tool or Alice in Chains jam session. We just got to sit back and eavesdrop on the whole thing, and we saw a fair amount of magic taking place while we did so. I mean, Animated tied in every major (and even the lesser) iterations of the TF mythos together in one package, and they did it CONVINCINGLY. Animated did it with flair. Animated busted out those Jagger-like moves and got wicked on the dance floor and dropped that ill technique that makes me come back for more and more and more. Animated can do no wrong.

Insofar as the toys are concerned, the fact that we have an existing toyline (TF: Prime) that is (rightfully so) copying the Animated style of simple yet decetively complex transformations (and admittedly taking it to another level) is proof positive of the sheer genius of the Animated toyline. You cannot deny it, you cannot explain it any other way than the way I just did. They are channelling Animated, not the Bayverse, and Prime fans can count themselves fortunate--not because the Bayverse toys suck. They don't. I just think that the Animated/Prime take on what you can squeeze into one and how you can get a robot to turn into fill-in-the-blank vehicle while also disguising the robot mode is the much better take on the idea.

With all due respect for all those who were unimpressed with Animated or just plain did not like it, Animated to me was what the TFs are all about as a franchise, a hobby and a kickass diversion: fun and a push for originality to further the franchise as a collective whole.

This statement is a near perfect reflection of how I feel about the subject. The only thing I differ on is my feelings about Optimus and Ratchet previous to Animated.

Target had 4 and TRU had 6, but still that fails in comparisons,

It could easily be argued that Cybertron stood on the backs of Armada and Energon to achieve whatever success it had, while Animated had no such help, rendering such comparisons pointless. But I have no interest comparing one show to another. Things go sideways when people make comparisons because they get insulted if anything varies from the specific formula they enjoyed.

So I'm curious now: Which 2 TRU exclusives am I forgetting? I only remember the last 4: Arcee, Cyb Ratchet, Rodimus Minor, and Cyb Ironhide.

How? There were nothing but complaints about Armada and Energon, and Cybertron looks a lot better by keeping it separate from Armada and Energon.

Among fans maybe, but among people buying figures for their kids and such Cybertron already had a built in following.

And thanks! I forgot about those 2. The only activator I picked up by itself was Cliffjumper.
