Two quarters of losses in a row. Layoffs in the USA. The Hub is a lame duck. Belt tightening on DOTM. What took so long for the paranoia to set in?

I got $20 that says Hasbro will blame their next bad quarter on piracy. :tfpwn

ala the music industry?! haha

A fan convention is now Hasbro's own personal Toy Fair.

Don't blame Hasbro, they are in the business of making money.

Blame FunPub for suckling so deeply at their teat.

It's not like it was a take over. It was a bedroom deal.

Hasbro asked FunPub to bend over nicely and they complied.

(but then again after their recent snafu(s) they probably aren't gonna say no to anything papa Hasbro demands)

I was already disappointed in this years Botcon so far (aside from the announced guests). This is just may be the straw to break the Camel's back. I'm glad I got to see it a few years ago and this year may be my last year. It'll be a fun vacation regardless. Next year I'll save my money for SDCC or more likely: New Orleans Comicon.

I'll admit I've never been to BotCon, and wasn't planning on attending this year or in the near future. But I have been to other conventions, mainly for Sci-Fi and/or anime. So I have a bit of con-going experience.

I thought the ban on 3rd party toys was unfortunate, but borderline understandable. I fully agree with, say, an anime con forbiding the sell of bootleg DVD's and CD's in their dealers room. While some argument could be made (and I would happily make it myself) for completely original third party products, in a way this is a similar concept.

But to ban fan-art? While never my main draw, in my con-going experience, something like an "Artists Alley," and artistically tallented con-goers expressing their love for their fandom through their art (and maybe making a few bucks off of it) is part of the whole con experience. I really think that this is one step too far, and that Hasbro may be starting to shoot themselves in the foot.

If Hasbro is looking to stamp out anything that isn't officially made and aproved by them, then this stops being a convention for the fans and, as someone else said, basically becomes Hasbro's personal toy fair. Sure, there might still be some reason for fans to attend, but it will be a very different experience and they shouldn't pretend it is a for-the-fans event in any way. It's rather becoming for Hasbro to show off to the fans, and hopefully the fans like it 'cause there won't be anything else to do while there.

To ban Fan Art at Botcon is like banning Cosplay at Anime Expo. Something that should not be done

That this is happening and Botcon is experiencing a lockdown from Hasbro. Does indicate the stupidity of Hasbro, and the lack of a good backlash from the Fandom, will allow this to continue. Though sooner or later Botcon will end up a lamer duck then Wizard World when it died.

Hasbro is killing Botcon and doesn't even know it

The Hartman should just say screw it and give the license back and go unofficial again. That would be the only way to save Botcon

What is next? Police doing strip seraches of everyone and if you are not an official fan, you will be escorted off the premises?

Guys, this is not a ban on fan art. Its a ban on selling it. You can draw all day, just dont sell it. Not that I agree with Hasbro but how many of us could that possibly effect?
