Dealers Will Not Be Able to Sell Third Party Figures at BotCon 2012

Ya know, it makes me wonder why Hasbro/Takara would ban Third Party Stuff, but still alow dealers to sell Non-Transformer related products as long as at least 50% of the sellers "stock" is Transformers related. :/ Heck, some of the third party products even encourage fans like us to buy the Hasbro products that go with them, like Fansproject Protector or City Commander. ( And let's be hounest here, if it wasn't for City Commander, there would still be classics Ultra Magnus' on the shelves today. :tflaugh )

I think that what Hasbro is trying to do is become "Dominant" and "Superior" to any other competition that they might have when considering who has the Transformers related products, to the point where there is noone else to compete with, so they say " Ok, we are the only company who sells this product, so if you want it, the only way you're going to get it, is that you're going to need to pay our ( insanely high ) prices, because you don't have any other choice." ( There's a word to describe all this, but I can't remember it at the moment... )

I mean, wasn't there a story on the news a while ago about AT&T tries to buy t Mobile ( Or something like that ) and the reason they didn't was becasue the Goverment feared that At&T would have too much power... :/ Well, it's the same with Hasbro/Takara, except instead of buying them, they want to get rid of them...

The gov feared that there wouldn't be enough competition. If AT&T bought T-Mobile, what would stop Verizon from trying to acquire Sprint. Then we would have 2 major phone carriers and not enough competition to keep pricing low for consumers.

and frankly, Botcon is branded as the official convention for Transformers. It only seems right that they have only Official Transformer products there too. I don't want to see any Gobots either! I buy 3rd party stuff. i have nothing against them at all. Not to mention, most of the people who would buy that stuff at Botcon would have to ship it back home anyway. Just buy it online.

That's what I'm saying. I mean, the only reason Hasbro hasn't jacked up the pices of it's products is because we can turn to Third Party companies instead, so theoretically, if Hasbro get's rid of Third party compains, they can jack the price as high as they want, because we don't have any other choice...

what choice did we have before Third Parties start showing up when it came to fan desired Transformers? For the 25 years before third party, HasTak kept pricing the same. Its just very recent that the pricing started going up. and to tell you the truth, it think it's because of Third Party. Has/Tak see's people willing to spend $50-$150 on these Third Party figures and figured they might as well try and get that green!

FWIW, I go to classic car shows all the time. It always grates me that people there sell furniture, jewelry and other nick nacks that have nothing to do with transportation. I'm there for cars. However, if the promoter allows it who am I to judge?

EDIT - I just got done reading the Botcon Dealer contract and it says nothing about the banning of 3rd Party products. If anything it keeps everything generic and the closest would be this

Exhibitors agree to display at least 50% Transformers, Robots, Sci-Fi or Transformers related items. No Exhibitor is to offer for sale any pornographic material, contraband,

stolen goods, items that infringe on any third party rights, or items which are illegal to own, possess or sell under federal, state or local law

Now Funpuck and Hasbro could hide under this

Promoter reserves the right to order the removal of any item that in its opinion is in bad taste or does not conform to these rules and regulations. Promoter and

its designees, including Hasbro, Inc., each reserves the right to ban or deny entry or continued participation to any Exhibitor for any reason.

Even though 3rd Party is protected by Federal, State, and Local laws. It would be Funpuck and Hasbro breaking the law by banning 3rd party participation in all its forms

Yeah, that's what I wrote in the article:

This began when exhibitors, registering for BotCon 2012, found new wording in the Exhibitor Contract (PDF), which states that exhibitors may not "offer for sale...items that infringe on any third party rights."

Even if the exhibitor claims that they do not know that the figure infringes on third party rights (in this case, Hasbro and Takara Tomy), Fun Publications and Hasbro reserve the right to "order the removal of any item that in its opinion is in bad taste or does not conform to these rules and regulations" as well as "confiscate any items that violates these rules and regulations."

ROFL

Okay - let's get this out of the way. Prices are going up due to economic factors. Hasbro did not jack up the prices due to third party. Why? Because Third Party never reaches the kids/consumers that do not come onto these websites (i.e., the core consumer for Has/Tak).

The pricing of products has to do with economies of scale, supply and demand, etc. If they price it too high, parents will find another similar toy that is cheaper. Hasbro is not competing with 3rd party, they are competing with Mattel, Bandai, PlayMates, etc at your local toy aisles.

Also, as we all know, Transformers toys and most toys are made of plastic. Plastics are made with oil. Oil prices have gone up. Ergo, prices go up.

Only thing is, third party stuff is what? Doube, triple the price?

I realize it's basic economics that dictates the price Hasbro charges for their toys. Same principle goes to Third Party pricing. The point i was trying to make was that Third Party products aren't keeping Hasbro pricing down because of competition as TF Boy was trying to state in his post. Hasbro is able to make tens of thousands of figures and get the price breaks while Third Parties make a couple thousand figures and the fans pay for that mark up.
