Hasbro, Inc. has announced that they will cut 170 jobs from their workforce in an attempt to recover from their sluggish holiday sales. Out of those jobs cut, 82%, or 140 jobs, are coming from their United States-based operations, which "about 55" from their headquarters location, Hasbro spokesman Wayne Charness said. These cuts were necessary "to address both the under-performance in the U.S. and Canada segment, and the need for different skill sets in the company's workforce to be better aligned with a quickly evolving business," Mr. Charness said. Affected workers will receive a "competitve" severance package and outplacement services. Read the Full News Story Here

Maybe Hasbro's holiday sales dropped so far because they waited too long to put out the Prime RID toys?

Or, how about retailers betting too heavy on the movie toys.

Or what about this one, Takara put out the good shit in Japan and US just got shit on?

Record sales and cutting jobs......really?!

That was their headline, but they actually didn't much money.

Their profits are sluggish and they're losing marketshare to Mattel.

They need to slim down to keep their profits afloat and their stock up.

Again, waiting a whole year to follow up a successful TV series with a toy line has cost them money. Boneheads.

Didn't help that they absolutely glutted shelves with worthless DOTM repaints. Yes, I'm talking to you Bumblebee 4x over :redface

The good news is that the stores are starting to get new products. Right now San Antonio WalMarts still have deluxes marked at $9.88.

We'll see if they start doing better with the non-movie toys hitting the shelves. Longer term till the next movie comes out they should roll out an other combiners design or two. I think that the 3rd party manufacurers springing up everywhere are biting into their profits too.

Only because the third parties seem know how to do business (ie listen to demand and deliver) better than Hasbro lately IMHO.
