Judge Rules Against Hasbro Over Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime Tablet - Sales Can Continue

If you noticed that Asus has been marketing a new peice of hardware called the Transformer Prime, you may have been wondering how they could be getting away with it. It should be noted that this is a sequel to their previous product, Transformer. It would appear that the new one being called Prime was just a coincidence and would end up matching the name of the latest Transformers television show.

They day has come and Hasbro finally takes Asus up on the naming violation.

I think it's rather ridiculous that Hasbro more or less waited a year to sue Asus over this tablet.

Maybe they're update over Transformer Prime specifically. Although I don't know how many people would get confused by the context of a tablet versus a toy.

It usually doesn't work that way.

And not to mention the video they are referencing looking like Cybertron is any nondescript technology-looking thing

I'd rather have Hasbro's lawyers preoccupied with this than with 3rd party toy companies. Besides, with the popularity of the movies, one can easily assume that Asus did name their computer "Transformer" on purpose. It's not some random name pulled out of thin air.

I think it's moronic that Hasbro claims ownership of that word in all things now. They didn't invent the word "transformer".

Remember, Diaclone started out with a character named "Convoy", which was cashing in on a a hit movie and song about a big-rig truck.

I'd rather have Hasbro waste its time on going back to detailing and normal sized figures then the crap ones they gave us in DOTM. return to the ROTF size. Their reasoning for the new size is still pathetic and BS

No different than Chick-Fil-A suing an artist for use of "Eat More". Companies are getting so frivilous now that they think actual words or strings of words are trademark protected. Even if they're from two different targets. :roll

It appears that Hasbro, Inc. has lost the first round in the Hasbro vs Asus war for world domination. Okay, so it is not so bad, but back in December of last year, Hasbro smacked Taiwanese technology company Asus with a lawsuit to try and get them to stop selling their Eee Pad Transformer Prime, which the toy company argued was infringing on their Transformers Prime trademark.
