The early DW issues were pretty craptastic though. I think most people got excited over them because they were the first Transformer comics to come out in nearly a decade (not including the BotCon comics which of course weren't widely accessible to most people). But the poor artwork and mediocre story writing soon shone through. Then the story writing actually got better (although the editting was rather sloppy)... but then, as you said, Pat Lee screwed everything up and killed off DW.

IDW started off well, then things started going strange -- AHM just threw a monkey wrench that buggered over continuity. I recently spoke to a friend of mine who's not a TF fan but he has a casual interest in Transformers - he recently picked up the AHM TPB on sale and even from a non-fan POV (unaware of the greater IDWverse continuity and thus unbiased in that regard) still thought it was a rather disappointing story. Last Stand of the Wreckers was good and picked things up, but then it kinda slid back down again... only now are we starting to see things get up again... hopefully it will continue to improve... but yeah, consistency sure hasn't been IDW's strong point at all. :(

I miss Marvel. :(
