New Timeframe Clues/Story Speculation (Possible SPOILERS)

So here's my speculation on the plot so far.

I think that time travel is going to be a factor in this movie. I can also support this claim with the following facts:

- There have been reports citing that the transformers are somehow involved in the Cold War lunar space race between the United States and Soviet Russia.

- The space race took place between 1957 and 1975.

- Apollo 17, the final manned mission to the moon took place in 1972.

- Bumblebee's new alt-mode is a 1972 Datsun 510.

And now I ask: "Why would Bumblebee go back from a kick-ass ride like the 2010 Camaro to a beat-up car from the 1970's?" The answer: Necessity. The transformers are masters of disguise, so if one were to travel through time into a past date, being an object from the future would stick out like a sore thumb.

If Bay were following this path of storytelling, it would be obvious to assume that the decepticons have found a way to meddle with time. They would then mess with an important historical event that would rewrite the time-stream to their benefit. It would explain the anti-autobot graffiti we have seen somewhat, but this is not a guarantee. Anyway, the Autobots are weakened and are forced to take appropriate action to send Bumblebee back in time (possibly with Sam) to prevent the Decepticons from altering the space-time continuum.

The event in particular could most likely be the Apollo 17 mission, since it is the last time a manned lunar landing was scheduled before President Nixon canceled the Apollo initiative altogether. Now why would you suppose he would do that? Perhaps there's something on the moon the government doesn't want us looking at? Who knows? All I can say is that the entire thing raises red flags all over for plot material.

And that's my opinion on things so far. Pure unadulterated speculation, but not completely unfounded. Take from it what you will.

Strong ideas, but I think the idea so far is "they've been here, they're using us."

I don't think time travel will be the end all for the series. Sure it worked as the last good Star Trek movie, but I doubt that's where we're going. As far as the time travel goes, I'm not sure Bay's up for more "This building didn't exist when" commentary when they've got the Beaten up Bee rolling around in front of those fancy buildings they filmed the Datsun at. It may all just be feint so they can squeeze more fan-pop dialogue in the film like "How do we get in?!" "Don't forget, we're robots in disguise!" As it were, the timeline-canon of the movieverse already established that Bee became the Camaro when he first landed, and his alt-mode hopping is just more disguise running that could very well end with his New Camaro upgrade (the different pin striping, the spoiler, etc).

The stuff about the influence of space travel, I'm guessing there's a Space Bridge on the Dark side of the moon. It goes along with the unanswered part of RoTF of just how all of those Decepticons arrived on Earth all at once in such a short amount of time without a ship, granted there's chatter of "ship parked in stealth orbit" excuses, but a Space Bridge is still more of a threat than a derelict ship any day. Factor into your conspiracy theories the cover up on any proof of extraterrestrial influence on why we haven't gone back and a Decepticon spy assassinating JFK because of his endeavor to go to the moon. Not to mention it fuels the whole "We can't fight them for it, they can have it" mentality. If you think about your influence of presidents through history, it could tie into Nixon using his G1-movie Frenzy in Watergate.

If the writers were more ambitious, they could even say its because of the Decepticon's demand for readily available sources of energy and the recent trend of disasters related to them are just their methods for collecting large quantities of it while the world watches the clean-up efforts. After all "Where did all of the oil in the gulf go?"
