BotCon 2009 - Hasbro Transformers Review Panel

* Wingblade Optimus is like the battle two pack Earth mode Optimus (that came with Megs) with a really big jetpack and an included Magnus Hammer.

I came close to buying the two-pack. Thought it it included the coolest Animated Optimus toy released, so far. I guess Wingblade OP won't also include his axe, though. Too bad.

But he does come with the Magnus Hammer, and apparently it's huge. :D

* They wanted to do an Omega Supreme along with the Constructicons but came to the conclusion that now is not the right time.

So the question is, when will it be the right time?

They didn't straight up say that they wouldn't ever make them, but you can bet that it'll be a looong time before they'll consider it.

* New cartoon will be of Animated quality

Does this mean more Animated style toys? Or would they be referring to storyline and dialogue, etc?

It didn't say if the new cartoon was a continuation of Animated. It could be, just under a new name and will air on Discovery Kids. Ooooor it could be a new series entirely that will be the same quality as far as animation, writing and homages to other series. It's a possibility that they might try to have many people who worked on Animated on the new cartoon. As far as toys go, a new cartoon WILL see figures for it. It's just not in Hasbro's blood to not accompany a cartoon with no figures. Whether or not they will be Animated depends on whether or not the cartoon will be in the Animated-Verse.

When did twist ties start anyhow?

Don't recollect them on much of anything I bought back as a kid.

I don't remember them being on the transmetal toys, or on Rid Xbrawn, guess that means that the unnecessary ties began with armada/energon

on voyager toys or up i could see the wisdom but on deluxe toys where the moulded bubble is enough twistie toys are just a nuisance

NO MORE TWIST TIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And FYI, Beast Wars and larger G2 figures are were twist ties began. Blister packs make so much more sense!!!

Animated I figured would continue as exclusives.

New Ironhide sounds very intresting.

Please do better on distribution with MP Grimlock then you did with Starscream

Movie Ratchet - MP Blaster !?!

I actually remember twist ties being on the larger beast wars figures way back when, so I think that's when it started. I assume twist ties on the smaller figures started with armada. I very much enjoy the thought of no more ties though, and especially the fact that packaging will be smaller

As for the 2010 Sneek Peek, I'm not interested in anything from the movie toyline. And ANOTHER Animated Lockdown...doubtful that I'll purchase, but we'll have to see.

Just to be VERY clear - Lockdown will be in the MOVIE style, in the MOVIE line.

And he is AWESOME!

And to be VERY clear AGAIN...I'm not disputing you, if that's the case, then great news! But the info on the front page says, "Deluxe Animated Lockdown - has spikes everywhere. More details tomorrow." Movie style is great, but not mentioned anywhere in this info...which is why I initially stated, "ANOTHER Animated Lockdown". I got it now...movie style, movie line, movie-verse. :thumb Time to update, guys (TFormers). :bounce

NO MORE TWIST TIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that might just be the best news of ALL! :beer

Some new stuff, also added these things into the first post.

* Rodimus Minor looks to be about the same size as Jazz. His weapons are stowable, his bow attaches to his alt mode's spoiler. Broad shoulders.

* Blackout looks very imposing. Eart alt mode of a six-rotor helicopter.

* Wingblade Optimus' jetpack and hammer will be compatible with his voyager release as well.

* Cybertronian Mode Ratchet can fit the EMP generator from Lockdown's figure on his arm, he also comes with defibulator panels.

* While not exactly Animated news, Lockdown's ROTF movie toy will come in a two pack with a ROTF Ratchet, his arch enemy in Animated. He is compatible with the EMP generator that will come with that two-pack's Ratchet. His design is very faithful to the original Lockdown's and looks to be the same size.

EDIT: Posting picks of Rodimus in a new thread.

Very true---just before I read your post I was gearing up to post about the old style, bread-tie-like twist ties that they used on G2 Megatron. Machine Wars had those too. As for the blister packs, I guess for the American market, they'd never go with Takara-style Beast Wars boxes with clamshell plastic inside, would they? Probably not the right display type for us here in the states.

Animated I figured would continue as exclusives.

This would pretty OK.

* A Cybertronian Mode Wasp will be made. He will be called Fugitive Waspinator. He will be repainted into Cyb Mode Bumblebee (not the other way around) but the head will not be resculpted.

While I'm bummed that Wasp isn't getting his own head sculpt, it shouldn't be too hard to make one myself.

The way I'm interpretting that is that the Cyb. version of Bumblebee would need the altered head---isn't that right? So I figure since by then there'll be 3 kinds of Bumblebees out already, one of those heads is bound to fit the repaint of Fugitive(Cybertron) Wasp, right (hopefully)?

Im actually hearing two different things about this. TFW reported that Fugitive Wasp will be made, then Bumblebee will be a repaint of him with no new head sculpt.

So that pretty much means that it is a Cybertron Mode, otherwise, why bother making an Earth mode Wasp then repainting him into Bumblebee since BB already has an Earth mode out.

The other thing I'm hearing is that it will be a Wasp repaint of Bumblebee. So just a straight repaint of the deluxe Bumblebee. This came from Tformers own Podcast with Ender reporting. Next time I see him on AIM I'll ask him if he can clarify.

Fugitive Waspinator is actually a straight repaint of Deluxe Bumblebee. The thighs were still yellow even

FAIL

And as for the Lockdown figure, it is reminiscent of the Animated figure but is a whole new figure with movie aesthetics.

    • Grahf, you made excellent points, and I got a chuckle at how you ended. Hasbro has been sending me, "hey, where have you been?" Spam-mail lately, and to tell you the truth, I have bought very little tf's from Pulse or anywhere else in 2024, which had already seen a steady decline year after year for several years now. It's not financial constraints, though I think my wife is happier to see a spending reduction. The real reason for me is exemplified by these latest Hascon "reveals." I'm not interested in any of these and until Hasbro gets it's act together, I won't be buying anything more from them, and I used to spend at least a thousand a year or more per year for the past decade or so. You can't tell Mr that Hasbro can't use "Selects" to give us some obscure characters like Dogfight, Horri-bull, or Backstreet, just to name a few, at least one a quarter. Going back to my wife, she said to me recently, "wow, you hardly bought any Transformers this year!" Her saying that really got me thinking and I got frustrated me about Hasbro's lack of direction. They may find that when you alienate your customers for too long, they might not ever come back. I've lost hope that we'll see an updated Outback, Windcharger, Tailgate,  or Powerglide,  again, just to name a few, and that's poor product planning and execution. I can deal with a lot of things, like poor qc, but just ignoring fans and then insuling them with tf "reveals" like what we just got, yeah, I'll keep laughing and deleting your emails begging me yo come back...for now. You better right the ship, Hasbro, cause I'm guessing if I feel this way, so do many others, too.
