Ever wonder how Hasbro gets their data on which figures are more or less popular?
From a recent Q&A:
QUOTE
The relative popularity of one figure over the other is based on actual rates of sale. When fans note the abundance of one figure over the other, it lacks the context of the rate of sale, how many have shipped, and regional variations, so national sales data is the best indicator of popularity.

No! My local Wal-Mart is the best indicator! I don't need business school to tell them how to do their jobs![/fanboy]

BA is definitely a shelfwarmer, though. No matter where I go I always see at least 10 of her.

Ya know, it's funny.. both her an Ratchet are like rare as hell in my area. I walked into a walmart like when animated came out, they had a ton of them.. but now? I'd be lucky if I see any of them. Oilslick, he's notorious.. so it seems anyway..
Probably just so many of him in a case assortment.. I don't know the exact shipping.. I was hoping to see atleast Swoop or Sentinel today so I could make use of the TRU Deluxe sale thing... nothin I didn't have already except tons of oilslicks..

Oilslick kind of makes me barf. All he really does to transform is kneel. His head and weapon and hands are cool beans, but not enough to save him.

biggest shelfwarmer in my area are movie FABs.
my local walmart always seems to have at least two cases out at all times. and it's gotten worse with the god forsaken aisle displays they have now. no animated deluxes at all. just endless shelves of FABs.

I think they just overestimated BA's popularity, and over produced. I have 3 of her(one just by chance), and outside of soft plastic issues, she is pretty nice.
But reguardless, with a mostly male market, and her very limited amount of air time, I'm not suprized to see her.
As for shelf warmers in general, I'd rather see discounted multipacks, retools, and mail in incentives as apose to the usual wave after wave of repaints untill the stock is depleted.

Big shelfwarmers in my area are movie legends megs, the Bumper Battlers or whatever there called and whole mess of oil slicks and Lugnuts. That's only at the TRU by me. Haven't checked at Target yet and I just plain don't shop at Walmarts. Only because I don't remember where the one by me is.

She transforms in such a way that the rider will have his/her face in her crotch the entire time he/she's riding her. At first I wondered if that was intentional, but then I remembered that Transformers toys are designed in Japan.

Wait, don't all the figures in the same case assortment have the same sku? Can they even track the sales of individual figures? As far as I can tell, at most retailers a tankor is identical to a suntreaker and prowl. But only 2 of those 3 are clogging up the shelves.
