Paul Newman, an Oscar winning actor and director, passed away at his home in Connecticut after a long bout with cancer. He began acting in the mid 1950s and was a major actor in over 50 films, many of those with legendary headline actors. During that time he had 10 Oscar nominations, winning 1 Oscar as well as 2 Honorary Oscars. He also raced cars and had his own line of salad dressings.

My phone woke me up this morning with a CNN text alert about this. Hell of a thing to see first thing in the morning.

On the other hand, he had an awesome life and career. R.I.P.

I should feel ashamed...I don't think I actually own any of his movies other than B.C. and the Sundance Kid.

Tip o' the hat to an old man who lived a full life.
*wonders cynically about stupid stuff like the Cars sequel now that its down two voice actors from the original*
**on second thought, didn't like Cars anyway**

My son loved it.
I liked it because it had Darrel Waltrip in it.
Keeping in mind that I don't run out and watch every "The Latest Greatest Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks CGI-movie" that is churned out, I thought it was pretty entertaining and had some funny moments.

Do people do that?
I've seen most Pixar movies in the theater (waited for DVD on Ratatouille), but I can't imagine willingly going to see "Igor" or Madagascar 2 or whatever else is out there.

I think for a while, about 5-6 years after
Toy Story was released, lots of people did...especially adults. Mostly because CGI movies were
very briefly the stewards of smart, satirical humor that the kids could dig while the adults caught the jokes the meant for the kids to miss. But then
Shrek and its "dated-in-6-months-references" style killed that.

I still think the first Shrek movie was brilliant... the sequels, sadly, were not

Haven't seen the first one in years, but I recall it holding up pretty well, Matrix reference notwithstanding. Plus, its the last CGI-animated movie that didn't stock every speaking role with a live-action actor recording a few lines for kicks...its actually used real voice actors like Jim Cummings.

What I liked about it is that it had a good story. I also appreciated how it satirized Disney movies -- I don't mean just poking fun at Disney movies, but pointing out how the whole premise of most Disney films was hypocritical and flawed.

Shrek is coming to Broadway... Jesus Christ I'll have to walk past it when I go to TRU
