A member of the US Senate seems concerned enough about texting to question the big four cel phone providers. Herb Kohl, a member of the Senate Antitrust Committe, has sent a letter to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile questioning their doubling of texting rates for cel phones. The question comes after recent mergers and the fact that texting restrictions haven't changed with the fee increases. It is being said that the increases are a plan to migrate users to "bundled" plans to ensure steady revenue flow.

This is what I find mindblowing:

According to the latest numbers from CTIA (the organization that represents the wireless industry), U.S. texters sent 2.5 billion SMS messages in June—each day, mind you, or 78 billion messages for the month.

I did the math... assuming there's 330Million in the US, that's 7.5texts per person. Just seems like alot since many people I know don't text.

But others text continuously. It evens out eventually.

For what it's worth, two of the three big cell companies up here in Canadaland recently decided to charge people who receive text messages as well as those who send them. NO MATTER WHO SENT IT. So, if I get a spam text on my phone for Jim's Rub N' Tug Palace I get to pay for it.

Which is why I have texting disabled on my account. There is a way to do it... they just don't want you to know. It involves technical support.

laughlol.gif How old are you again?

Sorry, I work a lot with the youth at our church; and that sounds like the rate per hour that they send text messages.

Which is a good point. Alot of the 20 somethings text like it's part of their natural bodily functions. Most of my clientele is in their 30s/40s.
