Gregory McDonald, who created the character Irving M Fletcher (better known as Fletch), passed away from cancer at the age of 71. McDonald wrote his first book about Fletch in 1974 and wrote 25 other books in total. He was also a journalist with the Boston Globe. McDonald won 2 Edgar Allen Poe awards and his Fletch series of books sold 100 million copies. Actor Chevy Chase portrayed the character Fletch in a 1985 motion picture.
