I was toy hopping a few weeks ago and came across these in a Target. They piqued my interest and I managed to pick two of them up a few days ago at a local toys R us. These retail in brick & mortor stores for about 9.99 a piece. The following is a quick review with a few pics.

The entire line is built around the premise of mixing and matching parts by way of a typical ball and socket joint system. Half the line is based on Dinosaurs and the other half is aliens most of which look like imaginative versions of... dinosaurs. Each set includes a bone shaped carrying case, unnassembled figure (aprox 20 pieces) and instructions. The case also happens to be the packaging and the color of the case indicates the color of the bones for the set inside it. The instructions are nice, big and clear and also include suggective combinations with other sets by showing you a single picture of two sets combined. I purchased two of these guys: Skorflex alien and Fang-o-flex alien.

Both sets are very sturdy and tight and are very posable. That's pretty much a given since the entire thing is ball and socket. The big surprise was in how tight the joints really were. As you can see in the pics some of the joints actually have rubber inserts to keep friction and prevent grinding. These work remarkably well and I imagine they keep very well overtime. Also included with each set are at least two flexible rubberized joints. These are the weekest parts, literally. They don't pop off by any means, in fact they hold on a stay on very weel, but they are entirely to flexible. They cower to the slightest bit weight added to them and make posing a pain. Good thing that most figures don't rely on these as thier main structure. Every part I have is again tight and very well done. No signs of plastic flash or bad tree clippings on any part.

While I'm not entirely sure why I picked up Skorflex as he's one ugly sob I was able to re-assemble him into a cooler Bi-pedal version of himself. He's gonna need a set of feet with heels to keep him stable but he stands as is with some patience.

Fang-O-flex on the other hand is killer. I love the color of his pieces and everything about him screams mean and primitive.

For 9.99 you just can't beat it. These are great toys, great fun and with the ability to mix and match parts there's simply endless play value here. I highly recommend these.

Thanks for the review, HS! thumbsup1.gif

I'm glad y'mention they're $9.99 in the shops, I was tempted to order a few from the Skeleflex site(<_<...If I had the funds on credit to do so..), so if I wait till I go shop-hopping, I can save a few bucks on the price & shipping.

@TRU, are they in the section with the Lego & Megablock toys?

I wouldn't have an idea where to start looking at Target, since they've broken up and spread out most of their "building set" toys across the entire section. (which is kinda lame, since they're all mostly made by Mega* Brand.)

Another question in this inquistion! (shines desk lamp towards computer) Do you get enough pieces to make two figures, or is it just one? (The website's store descriptions make it seem like you get enough parts to make up two toys.)

Thanks again, HS. I'll be hunting for these guys each time I go toy-huntin'.

Yup. I found them on the same side as the Neo-Shifters just one shelf down.

Target seems hit & miss as far as Mega-brands goes. I find them at some stores and others don't carry anything of thiers and I'd imagine the same will be true of this. However, I've also seen these at walmart too so keep your eyes open there as well.

You really only get enough parts to make one figure but I imagine if you're creative enough and don't mind sacrificing some posability you could make two.

Came back from TRU. Spotted 'em right where y'said they'd be. thumbsup1.gif I'm surprised they didn't stick them with the Spy thingies, Lite Formers, and Verticon toys that are also made by Wild Planet. (they might of had room for more, if they did.)

Anyhow, all they had was 2x Spinosaurus, 2x Stegosaurus @ $14.95. No aliens. icon_sad.gif

I'll keep an eye out for 'em at other shops, though.
Taaron
Yosh! Found the smaller-scale Skele-flex figures;

Turns out the local TRU had split the two sets up. The larger dinosaurs($14.99) were with the Megablocks, and the smaller $10.99 sets were a few aisles down with the Magnet-builders.

Haven't had a chance to mess around with them, but the packaging is neat.

ETA:

Well, had a chance to play with Quadmo. Snapped a few photos of him;

Gallery here.

Can't comment too much on the Plesiosaur, it's going back to TRU. (It's missing it's hips.)

What do you think of the Flex joints, HS? I'm not fond of 'em. I used them on a custom build of Quadmo, and it kind of made it a bobble-head.
Taaron
I'm gonna bump this topic again to give Wlid Planet their due. I emailed them about the Plesiosaur kit, and it's missing hips to see if they could send a replacement piece. They said they didn't have spare body parts, so they're gonna send out a full set. thumbsup1.gif

The rep also made feel a bit better about not being able to spell Plesiosaur. She couldn't spell it either. optimuslaugh2.gif

I now own
Velociraptor
Stegosaurus
Plesiosaur
T Rex..

Welcome to the club, Freefall. thumbsup1.gif

I still hadn't a chance to pick up anymore Skeleflex sets, but th Plesiosaur is a pretty awesome kit. I'm kind of wishing I picked up another dinosaur than Quadmo. The more I look at him, he's just kinda there, and not as interesting.

I did end up building him into a sort of motorcycle-ish thing, though. optimuslaugh2.gif

and I just realized, I deleted my photos of it, so they're coming up as dead links. Shoot. I'll have to retake 'em, maybe.

Hey guys. I ran by TRU this afternoon. They had some exclusive Dinosaurs vs. Aliens sets. They were two "bone" canister sets, cast in a somewhat translucent colors, bundled together with a cardboard packaging along the bottom. Not sure if the sets inside were translucent, but the ones I really looked at was the Plesiosaur and Quadmo. The Plesiosaur was done up in moss green, Quadmo looked to be in a dark blue. They also had a red/rust colored Velcioraptor, and what may of been a glow in the dark (the colors on the packaging looked that way) Fang-o-flex. They're about $20.99. The Dinosaur vs. Alien sets may be random, since I saw two Rust-Raptors with two different aliens. (I don't remember what the other alien was.) Didn't get any, since I didn't really have any money on me to get anything.

ETA: Checked TRU, and here's two of the sets. When I get a chance, I'll run back by TRU and do a better job at confirming if the 2-packs are random or not. optimuslaugh2.gif http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3076112 http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3076111

Yeah, I;ve bee nseeing those for some time now along with the larger scale Dino's and Aliens. Having the TF releases so close together this year has really put a damper on my purchase of other things (translate) I've had no mula to pick anything else up! Hopefully these stick around for a while so I can pick up a few more sets.

Do ANY of them react to UV light?
Taaron
No idea. I'm lacking an UV Light over here. (Used to have one with this rock-set, but it's turned up missing, so I haven't played around with it in ages.)

I love Ironic statements like that!
Any Glow In The Dark??
Taaron
Out of the 3 I own, doesn't seem so. The TRU Dinosaurs Vs Aliens Exclusive Fang-o-flex's artwork looks to be colored in that "glow in the dark" white-ish green, so that MIGHT be glow in the dark, but since I don't own it, I can't confirm.
Taaron
Another bump for folks that may stumble over the topic.

TRU is having a 25% sale on their Skeleflex figures. I might pick up one of the two-packs if I can't find the Sonic Unleashed toys when I go back Friday.
Taaron
Should I start posting about Skeleflex in the Kick Ass Stuff thread?

Anyhow, I picked up the Velociraptor Vs Fang-o-Flex set Friday night. Haven't built Fang-o-flex yet. been too busy writing a Sonic the Werehog review & editing the Velociraptor pictures. optimuslaugh2.gif I did take this one earlier, which I'm impressed with. It's been free-standing for about two hours now.
Mom
Sure why not? Anything that's not TF can and should be shown off there. I'll be bumping it soon with a bit of JOE and Marvel Legends.

I'll probably pick up the humanoid alien and maybe another set just for parts and kitbash sometime soon. TF's take priority though and I have a lot of pre-orders on my plate at the moment.
Taaron
Okay. next pics I take, will be going to the KAS. I finally got Fang-O-Flex open. I'm kind of disappointed on the colors of these TRU exclusives. Velociraptor is more of a chocolate color, than a rust that I originally thought...and the Fang-o-Flex isn't GiTD, he's more lime. (which if anyone follows Bionicle, the quality of their Lime peices really left a sour taste. pun kinda intended.)
FREEFALLL666
will be going to the KAS.
????????????????????????

Lego-Bionicle has improved on the quality of their lime peices. I have the Mosquito Makuta from the current line and his lme peices are TIGHT!

Yeah. that's the one last Bionicle Canister set I need. I'll probably be picking her up at Wal-Mart since my K-Mart doesn't have her. But I didn't really have any problems with the lime pieces on my other sets till I started to disassemble them for storage. rumblecry.gif ('Bout four of 'em broke.)
Mom
I won't be touching Bionicle until next year when they finally give them hands. I have one right now, Hydraxon, and I do like him though.
Taaron
Yea! I'm looking forward to those. I'm expecting the Agori sets(the small $6.99-ish) sets will be showing up in a few weeks @ Toys R Us. Usually they're released around Thanksgiving, and then the following week (or two), they'll do a Buy Two Get One free sale, so it's a good time to get those out of the way. (and if anyone sees a guy carrying an armful of Lego sets and dropping them, don't distract me. I'm doing my best to make it to the checkout as I can!)

That ha never bothered me, I always pictured the kits as is. I had trouble accepting hands in the CG Show...
