The entire first season of "Transformers Animated" is now available on DVD. The 2-disc collection contains all of the episodes in the first season of "Animated" with the exception of the three-part pilot episode, which has already been released on the "Transformers Animated: Transform and Roll Out" DVD. The set, released by Paramount Home Entertainment, is now on the market.

It's cheap that they're leaving out the pilot. I'm not a real big Animated fan, but if it was a true complete set, I'd feel more inclined to get this.

Maybe they didn't want the people who bought the 2-pack (like me) to feel ripped off, "You mean, I coulda just bought these with the DVD set?" (doubtful)
What's the packaging like? I hope they took a cue from anime box sets, and left extra space so I can keep the Battle Begins case with the rest of Season 1 (also doubtful).

It's pretty bare bones. 1 standard size DVD case with a spot on each side for a disk. Static Basic Menus, only special feature is a Season 2 photo gallery which is sadly un-impressive.
I'm happy to have the shows, but there's no garnish here.
If it'd been more then $20 I'd probably be ticked off.

Almost forgot. The first disk also contains the most worthless Video Game commercial ever. It's for the Animated DS game, it has no screen shots and is composed almost entirely from images from the Transform and Roll Out.

Hey, P-C, what's the aspect ratio? I can't remember if the show was in widescreen (like ER, BSG, etc.) or not, but the back of the box says full screen.

Actually, the 2-pack only has the first third of the pilot movie (which was the first three episodes edited together) - to get the other two thirds/episodes you have to get the "Transform and Roll Out" DVD which came out a couple of months ago.

*knew that*
I really felt ripped off when I bought the 2-pack, because I thought it actually had the 3-parter and not just the first part.

The DVDs are full screen.
I'm a little confused about this. The intro is in wide screen and "Transform and Roll Out" in particular seems like it's doing Pan and Scan. Does anyone know how the show was originally made?

You're never gonna make everyone happy. If they'd included the pilot, people would be like "argh why did I spend money on the first DVD then?"
I personally think that NOT repeating content across multiple DVD releases is the way to go.

Despite being animated in a widescreen format, the series is delivered to Cartoon Network in a cropped-down, fullscreen format, and is subsequently broadcast this way. Alas, the series has been released on DVD in this format, too. Fans could glimpse various widescreen images in a promo reel screened at various conventions before the launch of the series, which was later included on the DVD packaged with action figure two-pack, "The Battle Begins".
Apparently, it also appeared in widescreen on CN HD.

What I'm guessing is going to happen is if

gets a Blu Ray release, there's your widescreen version.

Man... I hate all this blu ray crap. I need a new video format like I need hemorrhoids. I hope Sony contracts a virulent form of... colon of the face.

Well, the only negative review the DVDs have at amazon is some douche complaining that both he and his 5 year old son prefer the HD version.[/whatever]
Honestly, I'd just rather have widescreen. You never know when there might be some guy hitting his head on a door and you're missing it because its cropped off the screen.

More than half of what I watch is NEVER gonna look better in high def.
I HATE when it's like, "The material won't look any better but we'll show you the whole picture if you cough up for HD!"
I wanted to buy an HD TV and couldn't even find one that would do. They all either had hot spots, poor quality, no side vision,, video game hostile, or were twice as expensive and guaranteed to fail in 2-3 years.
I'm not gonna pay for a new TV every 2 years.
DVD's don't need replacing yet.

And I really don't care about widescreen for something like this either. I watched it as fullscreen, so I'm fine with it as is.

I question if what was on the Canadian channel was really HD, or was just what we saw cropped on the top and bottom for 16:9 and broadcast on an HD station.

Full Screen vs. Widescreen

Widescreen wins. I'm pissed.
Also, anybody else notice the cover of this set depicts Bumblebee running through Prime's legs?
There's some marketing genius for ya.

Justice League only got it right after the first season was released.
Maybe if enough people b*tch the widescreen versions will also be released in time.
