Arthur Fonzarelli, better known as The Fonz, was immortalized today in Milwaukee when a life sized statue of the iconic TV character was unveiled to an invitation only crowd along the Milwaukee river. Henry Winkler, who played Fonz in the long running Happy Days TV show, was on hand and was reported to "mock comb" the statue's hair, which sports 2 thumbs up. Other celebrities on hand included producer Gary Marshall, actors Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams. The latter 2 went on to a spin-off show from Happy Days called Laverne & Shirley. Ron Howard was unable to attend due to a movie shoot.
Happy Days was originally supposed to be based in The Bronx, but eventually became based in Milkwaukee instead, although the show was never actually shot in the town. The Fonz joins 6 other statues sponsored by Nickelodeon's TV Land channel. That sponsorship program is now cancelled.
