Earlier this month, Christina Applegate was diagnosed with a gene linked to breast cancer in one of her breasts. Taking no chances, she divulged today during ABC's "Good Morning America" that she elected to have a double mastectomy. She will next go through reconstructive surgery that will take 8mos. The decision was mostly due to her mother's battle with breast cancer and the BRCA1 gene, which is linked with the cancer.

I hate to hear of anyone having to go thru this. I've lost too many family members to cancer to ever make light of it.

i have been hearing a lot of stuff about the double mastectomy is overkill, AND it only marginally reduces the risk of spreading. but i guess when you have the ability to replace it with a bionic rack, and prolong your life, it is probably the better way to go

A double Mastectomy? That's a terrible shame (and not for the obvious...) and she has a long, long road ahead of her.
I wish her luck and hope all goes well for her.
