This will never happen

I have no amount of tolerance for SW fans who think Boba Fett was a) badass or b) alive after RotJ

I was being overzealous. I can understand feelings of badassery in ESB, but they fly out the window at RotJ. Which I guess is more reason for some people to hate that movie.

Is it okay if you just thought he looked cool?

Yeah, when I was a kid I was all "That guy looks awesome! I want a Halloween costume like that!" but I never got the "OMG! BOBA FETT IS SOOOOOOO BAD ASS THAT HE KICKS ALL KINDS OF ASS!!!!" attitude other people had about him.

The bounty hunter scene in ESB still gives me a geekgasm, though. 4-LOM!!! (ZUCKUSS!!! now)

Boba Fett wishes he was half as badass as Darth Maul.

I'm just saying...Boba Fett didn't do anything remotely badass. He stands around while Vader and the Stormtroopers do all the work catching Han Solo and freezing him.

The most badass thing he did was wrap up Luke with his grapping hook thing, but that was followed by him getting his gun sliced up, having his jetpack triggered by a blind Han Solo, and dying a slap-sticky death by slamming in the sail barge and dying in a pit...which burped after it ate him.

So Darth Maul's one movie appearance > Boba Fett's four.

I was thinking of "badass" in terms of doing anything effective. Oh and Return of the Jedi doesn't count. tounge1.gif

He was supposed to kill both of the Jedi. He failed. Boba Fett tracked down Han Solo when the entire Empire couldn't find him. And he escaped with his frozen body. Mission Accomplish'D

Plus I'm pretty sure that they didn't make a 12" Darth Maul doll with a see-through eye.

Boba Fett figured out the Falcon was hiding on the Star Destroyer, yeah, but he needed Lando Calrissian and Vader to do the grunt work. And the indignity of his death can't be overlooked. At least Darth Maul got offed by friggin' Obi-Wan Kenobi, not accidentally by a fumbling, blind Han Solo.

not that I really care about this, you know optimuslaugh2.gif I actually think that Darth Maul was a wasted character who could have been used a lot more effectively than he was. Boba Fett really shouldn't even have appeared in RotJ. The idea that a bounty hunter would just be hanging around with some dude he did a job for -- a year later -- is pretty ghey.

You know, Boba Fett is pretty badass in the Shadows of the Empire game for the N64. I never got past his ass. So there's that.

What LMH said.

Darth Maul felt especially wasted because he shows up, says a few lines, has two awesome light saber duels, and then falls down the Bottomless Pit of Doom.

Maul should've lived and been doing Christopher Lee's job for the sequels, only to have his hands get cut off by Anakin...which would've helped up Anakin's body count from a bunch of kids and an old man to a bunch of kids and a badass alien Sith Lord.

Which still isn't great...

What should have happened is that Lucas should have thought up Count Dooku (minus the name) for TPM so there could be some kind of setup for him in Ep II. Least explained or fleshed-out character EVARRR.

Honestly I don't see how Maul served any story purpose at all, in the grand scheme. But I guess they needed a dude in a black outfit with a red lightsaber cuz it's Star Wars.

Pretty interesting article. As it happens, I just got the "Making of Star Wars" book from Amazon, so started reading that last night. The chapters I read last night dealt with the first couple of drafts - it was interesting to note that quite a few of the characters/ideas/concepts he had back then ended up in the prequels.

The book also talks a bit about Lucas' film school days, from the things he liked and the described style of some of his student films, it sounds like the nu-BSG should be one of his favorite shows.

QUOTE (Jerrod @ Aug 20 2008, 04:55 AM) *
So...who else thinks that whenever Lucas kicks the bucket we're gonna get some kind of reboot/continuation (read: not a prequel) of the Original Trilogy?

The copyright is good for fifty years after his death, but I'm guessing that Lucasfilm probably won't wait that long. The sad thing is I won't live long enough to ever see some of the re-interpretations that will arise once Star Wars is in the public domain.

I meant that Dooku's appearance in Ep II comes off as total retcon. Dude was supposed to have been on the Jedi Council, left the Jedi Order in disgust after they did nothing about Qui-Gon's death, yada yada yada. But without him appearing in TPM at all... well it's just lame when he tells Obi-Wan "it's a pity our paths never crossed before now" as if Obi-Wan would never have been in the same room with a guy who was on the friggin Jedi Council.

It wouldn't be a public domain issue. The issue would be whoever ends up with his company when he croaks wanting to make more money by making more movies, something which Lucas doesn't seem keen on doing, disregarding this TV-pilot-as-feature-film afterthought that spawned the conversation. The commodity that is Star Wars is way too valuable for someone NOT to capitalize on it when they have control of it.

EDIT: And hey, a fresh take on the series from a newcommer wouldn't be a bad thing for all parties, IMO.

That's more what I was getting at with "public domain" - I think that Lucasfilm, in an effort to "stay true to George's vision" will churn out more crap like this new Clone Wars.

dont get me started on how the prequels are natalie portman's worst acting ever (although she was hot in AotC) apparently green screens arent her forte

hayden... i would say the same thing but he was totally tolerable in jumper and that had to be full of green screens (i didnt know it was him initially)

I actually think she did well in RotS... unfortunately her relationship with Anakin to that point had been laughable, so when it came time to pour on the emotion, it had no context.

You mean those scenes make sense? That relationship plays like a badly thought out high school drama. Even in RotS when it gets really emotional. It all seemed like Anakin had knocked up Padme in the back of his car spaceship and they were worried that dad Yoda was going to find out.

That teaser poster got me excited... it seemed to me like the obvious through-line in the prequels was going to be "Anakin started training too late, so he developed attachments to people that ended up being his downfall." That's a simple enough story. But it wasn't developed properly, and it also got buried in an avalanche of trade federations and clone armies and Jedi plots.

P.S. speaking of lightsabers, I actually liked Palpatine's one-handed lightsaber the best... when your blade has no mass, it makes sense not to have a huge handle.

P.P.S. I'm sure there's an innuendo or three in there somewhere.

Now I just remembered that I also hate Lucas because he excused the lackluster ANH duel as "it's a robot vs. an old man, they both suck" and then 20-years-older-than-Alec-Guinness Christopher Lee comes along all ninja-style and stuff.
