Full Version: Red Powerglide

Raider Magnus
Is he only going to be available in Proper Red as Henkei, or is there a release in the US that will be that color?

Would love to have him in G1 colours.
Hellscream333
No known US version in red. There is the black and purple micromaster homage though. Red is only available in Henkei at the moment.
Detective Barricade
The red Powerglide is only available in Japan as Universe USA versions instead of Henkei. Basically, they just use the North American Universe box and place a Japanese sticker on it so TakaraTomy doesn't have to produce their own box.

Yep, if you want him red, your gonna have to pay double and import

For the Classics I like to get doubles. Instead of going Hasbro twice, I'm gonna import PowerGlide and Silverbolt to keep for prosperity while their domestic counterparts get sent straight to the front lines.

Sigh. That actually looks somewhat like PG. Why couldn't Hasbro have done it that way?

I really do like the mold and was content with the US one... till I saw the G1 goodness of the red one that's available over there.

uh, actually it's because A red plane is extremely unrealistic and the goal of Universe/classics is to provide realistic alt modes. I hate it when people rag on Hasbro and yet continue to buy thier products.

OK, so we're talking about giant robots, who are alive, from outter space, that turn into Ferraries, and Indy Cars and such to hide out in the open, with a bad guy who's a hand gun thats bigger than his jet soldiers, not to mention a train thats realy a space shuttle with pinstripes, but a coat of red paint on a figure thats intended to be an homage to a red figure is unrealistic?

When Hasbro does good, I salute them no problem. When they flat out drop the ball, well as a consumer who spends alot of money on their products, I have the right to rag on them if not beat them with a sock full of walnuts. Things like this make me uh, actualy import more from their overseas counterpart who just seem to get it right the first time.

Be happy with your realistic piece, it's nice, I have one to smack around, but I tell ya, I'll be happy when PowerGlide shows up soon! Now see if Hasbro did the job right, I'd have gotten two from them, but since they didn't, my money goes to those who did.

Also, I live next to Newark Airport, there are red planes, white is more common, but I see red, and blue, and brown(ups), and yellow, and all types of colors so it can't be that extremely unrealistic.

Sets trap to swipe Liege Evilmus' Red one from UPS truck....

wtf1.gif

If it didn't cost more than twice what the wrong colour one is on the shelf here I would so order that.
Elrod the Albino
Well, unfortunately, I saw another pic of the red PowerGlide and it was plain red, as opposed to the Brick red he should be. If he is definately the right shade, I might import him. Otherwise, Im not paying double for 'still wrong.'

EDIT Just checked out the pics from Wonderfest and he is bright candy-apple red. The goofy brick red was my favourite part. If I had theoption between red and white in the states, Id pick the red, but I'd import the brick only.
MikePrime
Yeah. I think it's the same red that is being used on the red parts of Hasbro's Powerglide. That, along with the white/light gray trim, making Tomy's the reverse colors of Hasbro's, is a real turn off. Not to mention the cost and the iffy nature of the sculpt itself.

1st: I'm speaking of the goal of classics/Universe 2.0. The original Classics intention was not 'realistic' alt modes so pinstripes shuttle/train need not apply.

2nd: It's Painfully obvious that this is a fictional universe. "Fictional" So throwing the whole idea of transforming robotic life into the arguement is a little silly if not entirely unneeded.

What we are talking about is the goal of this current line regarding our fictional universe. A red plane is indeed unlrealistic. It is entirely arguable that a white plane with red highlights is simply less unrealistic but still more than previously mentioned. While the line may suck for you because you do not agree with the ultimate goal of it's nature vs. your homage based universe, complete homage was not the intention of the line. If it was they should've simply called it Classics and not Universe. Some if not most of us are enjoying it for what it is and not what we want it to be. You live next to an airport, okay, cool. And I don't think I have ever in the entirety of my life seen a full on red military jet. You're talking about comercial and private jets and Powerglide does not fit into this category.

Doing the job right is simply a matter of opinion and nothing more. If you want to talk QC: I've imported quite a few Takara/Tomy figs and have purchase even more Hasbro toys because of it. Takara/Tomy's plastic quality is less than stellar almost 100% of the time and I've seen it get worse as time goes by. The realm of non QC is not much better with the random chrome placement and apparent lack of paint apps on this new round of figs which are now being rolled into Henkei. I am absolutely not impressed with the whole of Henkei less Megatron and even on him that chrome chest piece was enough to keep me from buying him for over 6 months.
Yuyuyami
^ It's a shame 'cause both Hasbro and Takara had such good quality control in Beast Wars. I never had an uneven ball joint. But those are on every figure I buy now.

Oh sure, it's the Universe line, but the side of the box right over the figures picture does say Classics Series, therefor, these are Classics.

Outside of 3 figures, I could care less about Henkei, but Astrotrain, Powerglide and ThunderCracker they did a much better job than Hasbro did. What I don't understand is why in "a fictional universe" why a coat of red would ruin it, when writen right on the box it says Classics Series which is supose to be about updating the character. If they realy cared about realism, Prowl would be a Crown Victoria, and why didn't they do that, cause the fans wouldn't like it. This is the same thing, Hasbro dropped the ball.

No, Hasbro didn't drop the ball, because your definition of dropping the ball is highly subjective. I agree with Hellscream's take on this, so in my opinion Hasbro didn't drop the ball.
You may not like the choice they made, and that's cool.

Your unsatisfaction =/= Hasbro failed. By any stretch of the imagination.

As for the pics you showed, those are fighter jets (jets that wouldn't even see combat). Powerglide's an A-10. A-10s aren't painted up for air shows.

And the real reason why Hasbro painted Poweglide white? It made business sense to do so. Look at the Movie line. It featured realistically coloured aircraft and they flew off the shelves. The primarily grey coloured Movie Jetstorm and Wing Sabre were very popular. So Hasbro sees that and thinks "well realistic aircraft must be a hot thing right now. Lets see if we can capitalize that with Universe."

And really people, IT'S POWERGLIDE!
How anyone can care enough about Powerglide to demand a complete 100% G1 accurate paint job is beyond me. A white Prime with red highlights? I can see the uproar. Poweglide though? Come on.
Hellscream333
I don't mean to bust your balls Liege. I just don't agree with your way of thinking on this. I completely understand that you feel let down as a fan but I simply think it's a case of your expectations vs. Hasbro's intentions, that's all I'm sayin. When I look at it subjectively I think Hasbro and Tak/Tom drop the ball equally as much just in different areas and at different times. Neither company can truly cater to the fans because it simply doesn't make sense in a business manner. We are only a minor portion of thier sales base.
