Sandy Allen, billed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest known woman at 7ft7, died at the age of 53 in a convalescent hospital in Indiana. Although the exact cause of death is unknown, she has had recent complications with kidney failure, diabetes and respiratory problems. Born with normal proportions, a tumor on her pituitary gland caused her to produce too much growth hormone. By age 16, she was 7ft1. She eventually had the tumor surgically removed.
Coincidentally, she lived at the same convalescent hospital as Edna Parker, who at 115yrs is billed as the oldest living woman.
