And Liberals would have cheered the death of the chairman, whilst protesting the execution of the shooter. Nobody deserved to be killed for their political views, not even Dems.

You know... what with that guy targeting "liberals" at that shooting at the Unitarian church in Tennessee, I can't help but wonder why these nutjobs are so angry, and think violence would be a good solution?

"I tell people don't kill all the liberals. Leave enough so we can have two on every campus -- living fossils -- so we will never forget what these people stood for." -- Rush Limbaugh

"I would have no problem with [New York Times editor Bill Keller] being sent to the gas chamber." -- Melanie Morgan

""[T]he day will come when unpleasant things are going to happen to a bunch of stupid liberals and it's going to be very amusing to watch." -- Lee Rogers

"And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it. We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead." -- Bill O'Reilly

"Howard Dean should be arrested and hung for treason or put in a hole until the end of the Iraq war!"-- Michael Reagan

"Some liberals have become even too crazy for Texas to execute, which is a damn shame. They're always saying -- we're oppressed, we're oppressed so let's do it. Let's oppress them." -- Ann Coulter

"We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee. ... That's just a joke, for you in the media." -- Ann Coulter

My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building." -- Ann Coulter

"We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed too." -- Ann Coulter

And Joe Wilson has no right to complain. And I think people like Tim Russert and the others, who gave this guy such a free ride and all the media, they're the ones to be shot, not Karl Rove. -- Rep. Peter King ®

Where does George Soros have all his money? Do you know? Do you know where George Soros, the big left-wing loon who's financing all these smear [web]sites, do you know where his money is? Curaçao. Curaçao. They ought to hang this Soros guy. -- Bill O'Reilly

"Has there ever been a more revealing moment this year?" Mr. Rove asked. "Let me just put this in fairly simple terms: Al Jazeera now broadcasts the words of Senator Durbin to the Mideast, certainly putting our troops in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals." -- Karl Rove

Miller is not alone, though some are more sanguine when it comes to evaluating the roster of contenders. Here's a note I got recently from a friend and former Delta Force member, who has been observing American politics from the trenches: "These bastards like Clark and Kerry and that incipient ass, Dean, and Gephardt and Kucinich and that absolute mental midget Sharpton, race baiter, should all be lined up and shot." -- Kathleeen Parker

Right now, even people sitting on the fence would like George Bush to drop a nuclear weapon on an Arab country. They don't even care which one it would be. I can guarantee you -- I don't need to go to Mr. Schmuck [pollster John] Zogby and ask him his opinion. I don't need anyone's opinion. I'll give you my opinion, because I got a better stethoscope than those fools. It's one man's opinion based upon my own analysis. The most -- I tell you right now -- the largest percentage of Americans would like to see a nuclear weapon dropped on a major Arab capital. They don't even care which one. They'd like an indiscriminate use of a nuclear weapon.

In fact, Christianity has been one of the great salvations on planet Earth. It's what's necessary in the Middle East. Others have written about it, I think these people need to be forcibly converted to Christianity but I'll get here a little later, I'll move up to that. It's the only thing that can probably turn them into human beings. ... Because these primitives can only be treated in one way, and I don't think smallpox and a blanket is good enough incidentally. Just before -- I'm going to give you a little precursor to where I'm going. Smallpox in a blanket, which the U.S. Army gave to the Cherokee Indians on their long march to the West, was nothing compared to what I'd like to see done to these people, just so you understand that I'm not going to be too intellectual about my analysis here in terms of what I would recommend, what Doc Savage recommends as an antidote to this kind of poison coming out of the Middle East from these non-humans. -- Michael Savage

These are just a few quotes I found on one blog. I'm sure if I actually search for some I could post about a gajillion more pages worth. You're welcome to try and match each quote for venom.

While I wouldn't take anything a political blog says as reflective of the reality of any political group, my own experience and impression from other individuals and media only corroborates all that. I like how the right always jumps on about the violence of eco-terrorists an' such, but when you really just stand back an' look, is there really any question of which political group is statistically the more violent?

Although reading stuff like this, I admit that at times, I feel those who demand violence the most are the ones who most deserve to be its recipients.
Haggisjin
The point wasn't what that blog had to say, it was that there's a persistant use of violent and murderous rhetoric by the right to describe people that simply disagree with them. And I'm not talking about some cockwit on a message board (wave.gif), I'm talking about well known, famous, and quite wealthy media personalities. All I'm saying is that if you continually use your nationally broadcasted position to espouse views that a particular group of people are subhuman and deserve to physically exterminated, you have at least a moral responsibility. (Although not a legal one before anyone brings that up.)

Use the recent Tennessee shootings as an example: If the guy went and shot a bunch of blacks/jews/latinos/etc and afterwards it came out that he had a bunch of books that I wrote calling blacks/jews/latinos/etc traitors who are ruining the country and deserve to be shot, I'm sure it people would've been up in arms about it.

Your examples seem a little skewed towards Ann Coulter (very easy target) but I'll play your game. Here are a few I found on a different blog. Had I more familiarity with political sites on the net, I have no doubt I could've turned up many more. But, well, just as I've never heard O'Reilly or Hannity sanction violence against socialist nutjobs, I don't remember the specifics of every brainless celebrity they've quoted on their shows either.

"So many right-wing Christians, so few lions." - a t-shirt in Palm Springs

This particular blog was, according to the author, a response to an assertion that liberal hate speech was confined only to random blogs as opposed to more organized efforts by conservatives. I can see where somebody would get that idea. I have one radio frequency and one TV channel to get my conservative discussion, but each of this fandom's political areas (Allspark in particular) are filled with people who I imagine must froth at the mouth each time they glance down at their qWerty keyboard. To me, it's absurd, because the Democrats in Congress are just as willing to stomp all over the rights and welfare of the American people (the DMCA and telecom immunity for starters) as the president is so often accused of. If so few grasp the concept of real freedom (ie not "freedom to do what I say"), small wonder that our country is in trouble.

On another tangent, I've observed two somewhat contradictory trends. Many liberals have taken to labeling conservatives who oppose them for any reason as ignorant and uneducated. A popular meme lately is that we're supposedly against science, as a convenient way to sidestep debating half-baked "ideas" to "solve*" the "problem." But the kicker is the source of such comments, which makes such declarations all the more ridiculous, as I'm a conservative with a math/science degree and they're usually...not. How can waiters and stockboys who might have 2 years in some arts program presume to lecture at me on economics or physical sciences? It's absolutely absurd, sometimes to the point that Michael Savage's quip that modern liberalism is a mental disorder starts to sound plausible.

I mean, how else do you explain, for example, working to dismantle the second amendment while purporting to genuinely fear being shipped to a secret prison by a fascist administration?

I sincerely wish that more of my fellow Americans would try to understand the Constitution and what it actually means, instead of squandering their energy engaging in this mindless partisan enterprise that world politics on all levels has devolved into, so that we could finally make some headway in solving this country's numerous real problems and provide a blueprint for the rest of the world to follow in getting its act together too.

*Looks like there's alot of focus on yet more taxes to punish Americans for driving to work and no energy or thought whatsoever directed at helping us reduce our impact on the environment. It's as if the actual problem is that government wants more money it doesn't deserve to piss away and global warming is as much a front for getting it as the war on terror is for the "problem" of the country being "too free."
Lord Madhammer
Yeah, let's stop feeding that mindless partisan enterprise. optimuslaugh2.gif But right after I get my shot at the other side in.

"If there is retributive justice [Sen. Jesse Helms] will get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it." - NPR correspondant Nina Totenberg

Helms was famous for his obstruction of AIDS funding, even stating that "There is not one single case of AIDS in this country that cannot be traced in origin to sodomy". He later refused to speak to the mother of AIDS victim Ryan White, who was a teenage haemophiliac who contract the disease through a transfusion of contaminated blood (the fact that HIV caused AIDS was only recognised a year before he was infected, and there was no reliable test at the time to check the blood supply). In fact, 90% of haemophiliacs who got the same type of transfusions as White contracted HIV. He's also the man most singly responsible for having HIV removed from the list of excludable condition for immigration, leaving the US as the only industrialised nation in the world to forbid entry due to infected status.

His stance was based on his blatant homophobia, and his belief that everyone who had AIDS deserved it, due to their "revolting" lifestyles. He opposed funding for AIDS research up to 1995. He only changed his stance once he realised that the majority of AIDS in Africa was spread through heterosexual contact, and Bono (of all people), pointed out that children had it (in 2000).

So I'm with her on that, except for the grandchild bit. That's wrong. Seriously and inexcusably wrong.

Cohen is particularly unfriendly to liberal politicians too. It's his thing.

QUOTE
"Snipers Wanted" - Craig Kilborn captioning footage of President Bush

It was then Governor Bush, and it was a monumentally dumb joke, for which there was later profuse amounts of apologising. When was the last time that you heard any of the people on the right or Fox News apologising for racist/hateful comments?

QUOTE

I think you didn't grasp the meaning of "highly paid nationally broadcasted media personality".

Again, he's not syndicated to repeatedly state that opinion. It was an attempt at humour on Conan O'Brian, which failed utterly. He then profusely apologised. Again, when was the last time you heard a profuse apology from Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly

QUOTE

Again, not nationally syndicated, again, apologised. Does Spike Lee even make movies anymore?

QUOTE
"White people are potential humans - they haven’t evolved yet." - Louis Farrakhan, friend and associate of Jesse Jackson

Louis Farrakhan is a racist, homophobic, anti-semitic nutjob who in no way could be called "liberal" or left wing, unless you count being black and muslim as automatically qualifying. He is the Supreme Minister of the Nation of Islam, and their official teachings are that Black people were the first humans:

"The Blackman is the original man. From him came all brown, yellow, red, and white people. By using a special method of birth control law, the Blackman was able to produce the white race. This method of birth control was developed by a Black scientist known as Yakub, who envisioned making and teaching a nation of people who would be diametrically opposed to the Original People. A Race of people who would one day rule the original people and the earth for a period of 6,000 years. Yakub promised his followers that he would graft a nation from his own people, and he would teach them how to rule his people, through a system of tricks and lies whereby they use deceit to divide and conquer, and break the unity of the darker people, put one brother against another, and then act as mediators and rule both sides."

The man's a freaking nutjob.

QUOTE
"John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr. — where are you now that we need you?" - British pundit Charlie Brooker on President Bush

The Guardian quickly withdrew the article from its website and published and endorsed Brooker's apology. He later stated:

“ I ended a Screen Burn column by recycling a very old tasteless joke (a variant of a graffiti I first saw during the Thatcher years), and within minutes half the internet seemed convinced The Guardian was officially calling for assassination. My inbox overflowed with blood-curdling death threats, and it was all very unfunny indeed - a bit like recounting a rude joke at a dinner party, only to be told you hadn't recounted a joke at all, but molested the host's children, and suddenly everyone was punching you and you weren't going to get any pudding. I've had better weekends"

QUOTE
"I'll have those 'TFans-blocks-n-word' voting Democratic for the next 200 years." - President Johnson

That's a third hand quote from a book by Ronald Kessler. It's highly disputed whether or not Johnson said it. Here's a later quote of his to compare to, to see if it sounds similar:

To shatter forever not only the barriers of law and public practice, but the walls which bound the condition of many by the color of his skin. To dissolve, as best we can, the antique enmities of the heart which diminish the holder, divide the great democracy, and do wrong — great wrong — to the children of God

I will go on the record as declaring Al Sharpton as batshit insane.

Because stupid people of all sides of the political spectrum are stupid. I was making a point about how there's a huge market for hate speech that implores people to kill those who disagree with the author. Stockboys are generally idiots, no matter what they believe.

QUOTE
I mean, how else do you explain, for example, working to dismantle the second amendment while purporting to genuinely fear being shipped to a secret prison by a fascist administration?

You act as though elected officials on either side care more about their principles than they do about getting their arses re-elected.

My point was, there's an entire industry devoted to this stuff on the right. I just personally believe you should hold some moral culpability when someone, who reads your books saying how people who don't agree with you are traitors that should be killed, goes out and kills a bunch of those people. Self reflection isn't a bad thing.

After seeing that bit that someone posted showing that nobody from FOX News donates to the Republican party, I have the feeling that most of the "conservative" media doesn't really believe most of what they say, they just know that it makes them a bunch of money.

I'm telling you, it's a marketing decision. Murdoch knew that he could grab an audience by playing on the "liberal media" meme.
