Full Version: Different Transformation for Tankor/Octane
TFormers Community > Transformers > Transformers Toy Discussion
Raider Magnus
Okay. I got Tankor. Octane. Whatever. I've debated it for a while because he looked so kibble-tastic in his bot form. The shoulders just bugged the crap out of me. Well today while I was sitting at my desk and disliking how his shoulders made him as tall as Megs, I decided to fiddle with him. I swapped the shoulder stuff down, rotated it, tucked it in and adjusted the rest of the arms accordingly. The results are MUCH better, in my opinion, to the official transformation. See below. Sorry, pics are fast and crude.

So what do you guys think? Better?
Rundown
Definately better!

Of course, IMO, he couldn't have been much worse. Might reconsider him now.
Hip-Hoptimus Rime
Nice! Different than the one I came up with, where the shoulders serve more like wings, facing forward and angled outward. I'll try to post a pic here tonight (and try your mode!).
Raider Magnus
Thanks!

I was just happy there was a relatively easy way to turn him from eyesore to acceptable.
Liege Evilmus
Nice, with all the recent releases, I sadly havent had to much time to experiment with him yet, but that does look good. I have put the guns on the wings though in bot mode and it does look cooler that way then as a weapon.

Wondering if that limits the arm articulation? But I guess it wouldn't be any worse than the other varition.
I also like the shoulders pointed straight back, but that only works if you keep the wings folded up.

Nope, no change in the range of motion. He was never the most articulated in the arms department anyhow.

I transform him with the wheels facing forward and always have done since he came out of his bubble..

my main gripe with him is the way his head won't fully come up and the torso is partially glued so I can't take it apart easily to fix it.

Here's my way of TFing his shoulders.

Raider Magnus
Also better than the original.

Still prefer mine, but that's mostly because I like the bots streamlined.

I tried your way as well but due to the fact that when you move his arms the front of his plane mode follows the arm it takes twice as long to get a half way decent pose. Not to mention that that way gets in the way of putting his arms straight down to his sides, and his shield the way I have it attached to his arm. Also you can rotate his arm back further with the way I have his shoulders.
Yuyuyami
My method is a mix between putting the tubes horizontal and the original transformation. I have the tubes go parallel with the blue joints on his chest so they're at a 45 degree angle to the floor, going behind the head. That way the tubes aren't like weird smoke stacks and you can have folded out wings.

@whoever said his chest can not be opened: wrong ! 3 screws and he's open ... then you can cut away some plastic mold-leftovers that aren't supposed to be there, unscrew his head, insert some filler and screw it on again ... and voilá he's got a neck (and my way of posing his shoulders & that dumb shield):

How did you pose the shield like that? That looked awesome.

I sort of just sticked it between and around his wings ... spread them ... and it holds quite well =)
Of course you can't shake him like a bell, or lift him on the tip of his wing ...

... I will post some pics later

That is awesomeji1.gif !

That's the first transformation of Tankor that I've actually liked!

No. I will not buy Tankor. Just, no.

(sorry for the following pics, it's gotten dark here, my rooms light isn't good, and I don't like to use flash-photography)

As for how I attached the shield to his back:

... stays on quite well, unless I move the wings together ^^

You don't need to buy Tankor, nobody forces you ... and I sure won't try to influence your opinion through some more pics of him rolleyestf.gif

Well mine was held with some glue, but a quick pry with a flathead popped him open pretty easy. Didnt extend his neck at all, but did trim enough away so his head can fully turn. Nice job on that mod.

Also, here another arm transformation, if you want to try and hide some of his truckiness.

For the extension of his neck I just unscrewed it, put some of that packaging wire in the hole, and screwed it on again icon_wink.gif

The problem with your transformation: his short arms look even shorter that way =/ ... but very clean, that's true icon_wink.gif

skeletor.png Schlecki!!!! skeletor.png

Seriously. I've not had an inkling of want for this figure until I saw your version of his robot mode. Oh, how much difference a small change makes. It's like how I was going to take Snarl back until I managed to get his dino head folded in properly.

The only way to remedy this, I think, is to go stare at pictures of his alt modes. Yes, that should cure me of Tankor-want.

*edit* It looks like the attachment didn't quote properly. Oh well, it's the pose of him with his arms up, hence the skeletor.png icons.

~Matt Booker
Schlecki02
The quote seems okay to me =)

But he only got his arms angled in mid way on this pic ... he can put them all the way up if needed ... i go as far as to claim: he can do every pose with his arms, without looking anatomically incorrect icon_wink.gif
The trick is to move the shoulders when needed ...

As for the alt modes: name one tripple changer with useable alt modes ;P

edit: just tried it, the skeletor.png pose works too ... he can even bend his waist bawards icon_wink.gif

Okay, so it's not much different than Astrotrain's, um, train mode. (I actually like the shuttle mode and don't care about the kibble.)

He'll probably be one of those purchases during the dry season, once Hasbro has enough of monsoon'ing us with constant releases.

I do like both of these alt modes waaaay better than the original. I had already taken him back, tho...

I got an Animated itch real bad... and needed to feed the monster.

But I could definitely see me picking him up again... we'll see.

I think the truck mode puts me off the most, tho. It works... but it's just... .there.

It's no worse then Classics Astrotrain's train mode, IMO. With triple changers you just have to accept that there will be alt mode compromises.
Detective Barricade
I did something a little different to fix Octane's neck problem. I unscrewed his body and head, then I screwed the head back on, but not as tightly. That way, to eliminate the turtle-with-it's-head-tucked-in look, I can just pull it up a little. And when I put him in truck mode, his head won't also be hindering the thing from rolling. As for positioning his shoulders, I leave them the way the instructions show: pointing up. Yes, I know I'm weird. Go away. optimuslaugh2.gif

That's the way I did mine too. Makes the elbows at least come down to the waist and makes him look waaaay better than the official release. The way the origional release makes him look, it looks as though he's been hit with a touch of the scoliosis.

Actually scoliosis is a side ways curvature of the spine making the spine S like with out the end curls of course. My daughter has it, and has to where this really hard back brace. I swear it looks totally medieval.

Back to Octane I kind of like the blade on his back but I think I'll stick with the Gundam shield look.

Just put it as in the picture, and then gently spread the wings ... they're actually holding the blades.

Finished my Octane mod, inspired by Schlecki's method of transforming him. smiletf.gif

More pictures, details, and a quick how to are in the custom's garage.
