With TDK reigning high at the Box office and having seen it twice I checked this one out Sunday.

This movie is insane and litterally blurrs the action thriller film genre with the Stoner comedy sub genre and for most part it's an absolute mess.

I've never been a big fan of stoner comedies and have come out hating a mass majority of them but as with most subgenres I have my exceptions. (Big Lebowski, Jay and Silent Bob, Harold & Kumar) This one surprisingly ranks right up there and it's pretty damn funny.

What I found most surprising about a mainstream comedy like this was just how unappolegetically graphic and violent it is. This movie has some of the most brutal, bloody, and hilariously slapstick violence in any movie this year so far and for a mix of genres it works pretty well. The tone throughout despite how messy it gets never really changes because everything is just so rediculous and a majority of the punishment is excecuted with fairly good humour.

Nothing throughout feels like it's taken terribly serious which makes it all the more fun. Everybody either walks out of the film having sh*t beaten/shot out of them or is killed elaborately in the feel of any Die Hard film and all of it is hilarious because all of it feels like harmless fun.

I was really impressed with how though the movie starts like your average Harold/Kumar stoner comedy it becomes more of the classic buddy/buddy action flicks of the 80s. The last time I remember Hollywood trying something similar was with the Rock and Sean William Scott in The Rundown and that was f*cking awful.

Actor James Franko (Spiderman's Harry Osbourne) pulls off the most convicing/hilarious stoner this side of Jeff Bridges "Dude" Lebowski and the chemestry between him and Seth Rogan is perfectly matched and timed.

My only complaint if any was that one cool song in the trailer never made it into the final film. Kind of catchy whatever the hell it was.

I saw it w/ the girlfriend last weekend. To save time, I'm just gonna agree w/ what you said. Overall, I liked it. James Franco was awesome as the stoner.
Hunter Rose
Also saw it this weekend and enjoyed it.

It's a DVD-er for me.

On a secondary note I was watching a bit of SDCC Panel and apparently it turns out Express is losely base on a Frank Miller novel from some time or other. That explains a lot. optimuslaugh2.gif

Also a sequel is already being rumoured. Apparntly the creators are planning to cross over the characters here with the ones from Superbad. slytf.gif One half of the movie would be helmed by Superbad's director while the latter half by the guy who did Pineapple Express. Could be interesting.

Has yet to actually see Superbad. Saw some clips off Youtube and it looked pretty damn funny. Anyone seen it?
