So I just got a WORKING XBOX 360 FOR FREE recently from one of my friends. I cannot tell you how ecstatic I am to be able to finally use this system. But that's the problem. Aside from Ultimate Alliance, I don't know what else to get! I'm on a limited budget, so I can't drop $60 on a game or anything of that caliber.

So I want some recommendations for some games I can get for this system (that I can also use LIVE would be nice) and that won't break my bank account. So far, all I have is Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, which I already have for PS2, but now I can actually play the game online with people and it not be a hassle.

RECOMMENDATIONS PLEEZ KTHX thumbsup1.gif thumbsup1.gif

Call Of Duty 4. You can get a used one for a good price on eBay that is not "The Game of the Year" edition
WarMegatron
depends on what you like to play-

third person shooters-
Gears of War

First person shooters-
CoD 4
Army of two
Halo 3
UT3

Hack and slash
Ninja Gaiden 4
Assassins Creed
Conan( its a okay game, but its still fun, just ignore the idiotic one liners from Ron perlman.)

I can't wait for GoW2

Bumblebee
If you dont want to spend much....Assassin's Creed is down to $30(in Canada)

I have it for PS3 and its pretty great.

Ninja Gaiden II is freakin awesome but still at a high price point.

if your in to racing games forza2 is one of the best and is still one of the most played games on live

also soul calibur IV is good fun if you have a friend round
Father Time
Assassin's Creed, indeed. Rather quick game, but very entertaining nonetheless. I'm also a fan of Bioware, so I would recommend Mass Effect, although I must admit it to be slightly less impressive than previous Bioware RPG installments. I don't really care all that much for FPS, so I can't recommend anything in that area. However, the Orange Box is fairly well priced, so you may consider taking up that, especially since it houses various FPS games. Personally, I'm contemplating Iron Man, NinetyNine Nights and Eternal Sonata. I've played demos of these games through Live, and considered them quite entertaining. Ofcourse, I'm a great fan of Iron Man, bth the movie and the character, so that's a plus for that. NinetyNine Nights is massive RPG You-against-an-army fighting, which can be fun, but may turn out to bore quite fast. Eternal Sonata is about Chopin who on his death-bed finds a portal through his music to a new realm, where music governs everyday live. Fighting is a blend between turn-based and real-time. And, well, I'm rather a fan of classical music, and I'm entertained by the notion of finding it a core element in a J-RPG.
Cabal
Bioshock
Mass Effect

Both those games have been dropping in price lately, and are some of the best games out. You might want to check your local TRU, they have a ton of 360 on clearance for next to nothing.

*has no Toys R Us near him rumblecry.gif*

So far I've got Ultimate Alliance and Dead Rising. I haven't invested in any other game with intensive multiplayer because I CAN'T FRIGGING CONNECT THE THING TO LIVE!!!! grr.gif angryfire.gif

My connection test keeps failing when it tests for MTU. I've tried almost everything short of running 200 ft. of cable into the next room to plug it into the router itself. Using this thing wirelessly should not be this frigging difficult grr.gif
Blitz
are you trying to connect to live via your PC?

do you have vista or XP?

I have mine set up with vista (but its the same way with XP)

theirs 2 ways to do it one is to bridge the connections but that only works 1 once every blue moon and I just gave up on it

but there is a easier way

go Control panel>Network and Internet>network and Sharing centre then in the side bar you should see Manage Network Connections. Right click on your wireless and go to sharing and tick the box saying yes to "Allow other network users to use this computers internet connection"

as for your 360 just have the network cable plugged into your PC and Xbox360 you dont need to mess with any settings on the console

Disks:

Gears of War: surprisingly epic, nice gameplay mechanics.
Halo 3: because its just Halo, and I say it more for campaign and custom games with friends. Shenanegans!
Mass Effect: because its an epic game, and plays really well.
Bioshock: masterpiece of a game, a true test of the console's power.
Assassins Creed: visually incredible, excellent gameplay controls, fun platformer.
Dark Sector: its different.
Lego Star Wars TCS: its just fun.

Downloadables:

Bionic Commando Rearmed: classic game with a new face, bonus "Rad" skin for the next gen sequel.
Tetris Splash: because its Tetris
Roboblitz: its a platformer built with Unreal Physics, and its quite fun.

Ok. Can't believe noone has said this.

If you like big giant japanese robots... ARMORED CORE for Xbox rules.

The designs are just awesome. Customize your bots from a gazilllion parts and the missions are pretty fun too.

The controls have been adjusted for 1st person shooter style on Xbox.

People are pretty hardcore on Xbox Live, but the new game comes out on Sept 18th so that should level the playing field a little bit.

Enjoy!

armoured core 4 is cool but after a publisher switch the long delayed AC: for answer is coming out on the 16th and in October for the EU so you might as well wait for that since most people will be playing that online

also multi player is not very balanced in a nut shell if you've only done half the single player even if you've got ace skills some one who has finished the game can put you down fast since his AC will likely have more upgraded parts and the dreaded Kojima cannons that can just rip apart anything. but they might have changed that for AC:FA

Quick update: I've now got M:UA, Dead Rising, and Lost Planet. All of them rock.

When I can play them.

Two weeks ago, the box RRoD'd on me. I promptly got out my tools and gutted the machine to fix it. Fixing done, the machine worked fine until this past weekend, when I've started to get random video freezes with no red rings. I didn't do any of the stupid fixes (gluing erasers, towel trick, etc.), I merely removed the x-clamps. I'm redoing the fix again, this time with the recommended thermal paste, and maybe, just maybe, that'll fix this crap.

Once I get the system working again (IF I can, that is), I'm going to push to get the thing on Live. I had to postpone my work on getting the system to work with Live because of lack of time/money issues.

To answer your inquiry, Blitz, I'm trying to connect through Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing, like you explained. I haven't tried running a wire straight to the router yet (it's in the next room and that would take lots of wire) so that's another thing I have left to try.

Anyhow, has anyone else gone through the RRoD problems and/or applied the x-clamp fix? I'm curious to see how some other people have fared.

Why did you fix it!? Microsoft totally covers it and will replace your box.
OP2K5
Microsoft covers it IF the silver sticker on the inside of the dashboard cover is still there. In other words, you tamper with the box, warranty = bye bye.

I am not the original owner of the box. It belonged to a close friend of mine originally. When the box died on him, he just up and bought a new one after hearing how hit and miss M$'s repair service is. He just gave the Xbox to me for free, saying that if I could fix it, it's mine. First thing I noticed was that he had already opened the machine to see if he could do anything, and when it did so, he ripped the sticker in half RATHER than just steaming/heatgunning it off. Thus, any repairs the system needs I have to do myself. Which sucks, but hey, it's cheaper than paying $200+ for a new box.

Anyway, another update. The box is working again, and as far as I can tell, will hopefully stay this way. I've been playing LOTS of Lost Planet as of late and have had no problems.

Concerning giant mecha... I'm on the verge of purchasing Armored Core 4. I haven't quite convinced myself to get it yet because of the lack of Live (IT STILL WON'T F*CKING CONNECT), but I have been playing lots of AC2 on PS2 as of late and it's really helping to push me along. My friends and I are all big AC fans, and they've been playing AC4 since it was released. I'm the only one who hasn't joined in the fun yet.

So there it is. In a nutshell.
