So, is anyone intending to watch any of the Olympics?
I'll usually watch the medal rounds in swimming and track and will watch women's gymnastics (because my wife makes me and not because I'm a dirty old man.) I'll also watch women's beach volleyball because I am a dirty old man. Every now and then I'll also watch some of the less popular sports like judo, fencing, taekwondo, etc.
I, for one, am really hoping that Team USA can return to its winning ways in men's basketball after a horrendous showing in the 2004 Olympics and am planning on watching every game I can. I'm honestly really excited to watch the first game on Sunday as we take on China and am hoping they crush China like Madhammer wants Obama to crush McCain.
EDIT: Let's keep Human Rights violations and whether or not the Olympics should even be in China out of this and instead focus on what the Olympics is all about...Team USA kicking the crap out of the rest of the world!

I agree with this. However, nothing is going to change the fact that in 2 days the Olympics are being held in Beijing.

Not interested this year due to it being in China. I think it's going to prove to be one of the worst. China, for instance, is still showing it's
political hate.

I don't care about the Olympics anyway, so that's all I have to contribute.

I'm not sure I've ever watched any Olympic sport except for that one time John Candy and Doug E. Doug went bobsledding.

I just thought it would be nice for people who do or don't care about the Olympics to be able to talk about fencing and water polo without it turning in to a "China is SO bad on Human Rights violations..." "How bad is it?"

ment.
Hey, if no one at TFans is planning on watching Mankreet Poonanner of Upper Lower Carbombya get his spleen handed to him on a platter in Judo, that's fine, too.

I watched some of the USA basketball team's games in '04, specifically the USA/Argentina match-up, and then only to check out my hometown Spurs' Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan go at each other. Duncan never stood a chance in international play.

I really have no desire to watch the Olympics, and have no strong feelings of nationality anymore, sorry.
I do find the winter Olympics entertaining, though.
And BTW there are Canadians, UKers, Austrailians, and many more folk from different countries on this board that may not want to see USA win, ST53.

I know, just stirring the pot is all. I mean, the US has no hope in table tennis and I was just waiting for some Chinese guy to come on here and go "Just wait, buddy."

Whenever I have to watch the Olympics for one reason or another, I like figuring out the total medal counts for each country per capita. That way the US and China always look sh!t, and countries like East Timor come out as champions of the Universe.

What time is the opening going to air? I'm guessing it pre-recorded if they air at night tonight (Pacific USA). Aren't most of the events prerecorded? I don't remember I haven't watched the olympics since.... 96?
