McDonald's Dollar Menu, which includes the highly popular Double Cheeseburger, is going through some changes by the end of the year. At the heart is the double cheeseburger, which store managers complain brings in unprofitable traffic. Due to escalating dairy prices, as well as an expected increase in beef prices, the $1 double cheeseburger has had it's profit squeezed out of it. McDonald's is trying several ways to change the popular item, including adding one slice of cheese (versus 2 slices) and raising the price past $1.
McDonald's has been trying various ideas to boost traffic in the midst of the recession. An idea earlier this year to add Sweet Tea to their menu backfired, when they discovered the $1 Sweet Tea promotion was actually hurting sales of their espresso drinks, which range from $2-$3.

Mainly because all of their other stuff just seems over-priced. I also roffle at how the double cheeseburger is $1, but the regular cheesburger is $1.09.

I have to go to McDonald's for breakfast once every six weeks or so because the Sausage Egg McMuffin is just damn tasty.
And I'll feel the need to get the McRib at least once whenever it comes to town - although why I don't know. Marketing probably.
Otherwise not so much with the eating there, especially not anything on the Dollar Menu.

I happen to like McD's little burgers a lot. Maybe it's the bread, but I could eat 6 of those things in a sitting. Hold the pickle and onions tho.
And McRib FTW. Like that Simpsons ep featuring the Ribwich. When it comes to town, I eat it. Simple. When it leaves, I get sad. Like when they took away my Philly Fudgesteak, or my Bacon Balls, or my Whatchamachicken... *shudders, weeps*

Maybe South America, 'cause I sure as hell don't know anyone here who willingly put pickles on their chicken sandwiches.

This is weird because at all my local McD's the double cheeseburger, while on the $1 menu, is actually $1.19.
This will suck because my son and I go by McD's sometimes on Saturdays after Aikido class, and the two of us get lunch for 5 bucks.
EDIT: in retrospect, I think they $1 menu is actually referred to as the VALUE menu at all my local McD's.

I used to work at McDOnalds two years ago. We were told NOT to order the double cheeseburger for our free break meal because of how expensive is it to make. It was never profitable, it was a loss leader from the get go.

Then I've been part of the test market for a few years. We have not had Double Cheeseburgers on the value menu for about 2 years. It costs $1.29 and we have the "bacon" cheeseburgers on the value menu in its place. And it hasn't been called the Dollar Menu for at least that long, most places around here have "Value Menus" as opposed to Dollar Menus.

They only have the regular chicken sammichs at the McD's around here, which is disappointing, I had one of the spicy ones in Arizona and it was pretty good.

Give it time. The McDonalds reps first have to read this thread, do extensive McMarket analysis to determine that, yes, the public is indeed McReady and McDesiring the McPigWich, conduct McTaste tests in their top-secret McLaboratory, before finally launching a McProduct roll-out.
Give it time...

Plus, the Hot-N-Spicy combo (if you eat fries) is only, like $3.29 around here. I indulge myself about once a month (but I get them to hold the mayo...YUCK!)
We used to have a variation around here called the Cajun McChicken. I practically lived off those things in college. Thank goodness they don't have them anymore.

Couldn't that term be applied to the McRib? It does contain a pig-like product.
