Dude, are you really surprised that an Xbox 360 you got on eBay for less than $50 is.... broken?

i read that as $440 till LMs post corrected that.
Um why are your parents writing email for you?
BUT I'll try to help you out for what its worth... MS has a 3 yr warranty on the 360s, try them.

They literally performed the entire "Aristocrats" routine in front of me with my quadrapalegiac neighbor's family, 2 llamas, a chimp with diarrhea, a bunch of bananas, and my dog. I mean, hello? Scarred for life? It's me, Bumblemus.
Buck up, little camper. Somewhere there is a facility you can go to, and never see the light of day again.

jokes aside - yeah you've lost out with the ebay side of it (what can you expect for that money?) but get your parents to send an email to microsoft's xbox customer service dudes asking if it's still covered by any kind of warranty - i did with a broken ps2 (i had bought it new but w/e it was YEARS old) and they said they'd fix it for like £30 or something (not much)
worth trying dude

He's leaving out the part where he says he sent it back to Microsoft to get it fixed. Therefore, he techincally got a 'refurbished' XBox 360

I'm sure their excuse for not fixing it had more to do with you not having a warantee than it did with them just saying "it's broken." As a whole legion of people who had RRoD will attest that microsoft did help them.

okay - call them from a different address & say it was bought for you by your deceased grandma and you don't know when or where she purchased it - tell them not to be so insensitive if they question it
