How else are we supposed to know that something broke? He could have said "Oh, no! The neural inhibitor is no longer working!" But as LMH pointed out, SM1 was Power Ranger-y enough.

I dunno, he could have just mentioned "hey, this has AI in it and is probably dangerous to graft to my central nervous system." Then gradually seeing him become more rageful or something would have worked for me...plus that hospital scene was rather kid-unfriendly, IMO- I didn't like it.

Of course, it's easy to say the whole arms thing was a huge laughable McGuffin also... I just Shrug.gif and roll with it

This is a fact, it scared my son shitless.

I thought it was just Raimi's horror-directing skills shining through and I kind of sort of wish he'd have carried it through the rest of the film with him.

My dad loved the first movie... hated the second one. Because to him, a guy with giant metal arms in his back = ghey.

BTW I loved the hospital scene for the old school Raimi-ness of it all. But in context, it was a bit... stylistically different. It'd be kind of like having a splatter scene in the middle of LotR or something.

I'm kind of glad Jackson decided not to film that "Tom Bombadil gets a Hobbit reach around and facial" scene for FotR.
Lord Madhammer

What the f*ck? "Ring a dong?" slytf.gif

I've relegated the Bombadil song to the "special" section of my brain.

Just finished watching it again. Started at 12 but had multiple interruptions. optimuslaugh2.gif

A lot of the film makes sense and works well as a story that concludes the adventures of Peter, MJ, and Harry. The Venom bit of it didn't feel as badly tacked on either nor did Gwen Stacy.

What I don't get is why the hell did Sandman have to be in it?

The character only complicates/short changes all the other important elements while really contributing nothing to the plot.

Sandman being retconned as Ben Parker's killer has virtually no real bearing on why Parker turns evil. It pisses him off for a bit but then after his talk with Aunt May is pretty much fine again. The real catalyst for him turning evil in the end is Harry coming out of Pineapple Express state to mind f*ck both him and MJ. This of course sparks up the rivalry between him and Harry which completely defeats the purpose of his encounter with Sandman in the beginning. The Roxbury montage worked as did Eddie Brock's humiliation/firing and would have been plot enough before the final showdown.

I think Spiderman 3 would have survived just fine without Sandman and more exploration on the Eddie Brock Venom/Stacy Gwen character. I think aside from being humiliated and fired because of Parker, there should have been a bit more focus on the Brock/Stacy relationship. The subplot is properly introduced during the saving Stacy Gwen scene but left hanging and doesn't come up again until he's like "BTW, GF dumped me, sob so I going to kill you for that too"

I can kind of except the Harry Osborne redemption story but having Sandman just up and quit when Venom gets killed is just painful. The redemption leading from already idiotic retcon is nothing really more than a big f*ck off Sandman your not needed anymore for the story. Which is funny because he wasn't at all necessary for any of it IMO.

Spiderman, Mary Jane, Harry, and Eddie Brock/Gwen Stacy would have been more than enough plot/subplot the third time around and as such would have made a much better movie.

Ho hum. optimuslaugh2.gif

ET: Tobey Maguire to suit up for more 'Spidey' movies

Entertainment Tonight

Actor Tobey Maguire will team up with director Sam Raimi once again for the fourth and fifth installments of the hugely successful 'Spider-Man' franchise, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"The studio never considered any other actor. Tobey was our only choice and the only person we've discussed the role with," Columbia Pictures (Sony) studio spokesman Steve Elzer tells the industry publication.

In an effort to cut costs, Columbia may shoot the films back-to-back starting in fall 2009, Elzer is quoted as saying. "Spider-Man" is the studio's most successful movie franchise, with the first three films grossing $2.5 billion worldwide.

Laura Ziskin, who will produce with Avi Arad, had said she would like to aim for a May 2011 release for "Spider-Man 4," nine years after the original movie's debut, the Hollywood Reporter says.

I believe I may have discovered one plot point, could be potentially spoilerish though so read at your own risk.

So, does anyone besides me remember that Doctor Connors still has a piece of the symbiote inside his lab? It occurred to me after I watched SP3 on DVD, though I wasn't sure if it was of any significance. However, just recently I came across a section of the Ultimate Spider-Man storyline and apparently the good old doctor ended up creating Carnage in that continuity. It's a possibility that this is where the movie will head next, but who knows? It's a pretty valid connection though...

Well that would be interesting... Of course the fans aren't screaming for it (as I'm aware of) so that may mean ample screen time. Wonder if they'd do a Venom / Spider-Man team up?

One day I'll have to read / learn the Ultimate lines.
