Just random thoughts... it occured to me today that I f*cking hate Galvatron and Grimlock, who used to be favorites of mine.

And I really like Jazz and Blaster, neither of whom I really cared about back in the day.

This happen to anyone else?

I wouldn't say hate, but there are quite a few I kinda, sorta aren't quite as crazy about now as I first was.

Cybertron Soundwave comes to mind (which I sold.)

Could care less about them whether from show-wise or toys-wise, but Animated & Classics/Henkei line really tempted me lately. Starscream is the first of their kind in my collection.

I used to love combiners in general, and the Constructions especially.

Now anytime we know any news is going to be announced or someone makes a "wishlist" thread any mention of "Devastator" is like nails on a chalkboard.














On the flip side, I like the idea of Prowl - the logician - a lot more than I used to as a wee lad.

Yeah, combiners in general don't do it for me anymore. Except for smaller combiners... specifically, Slamdance and Squawkbox.

Most Movie TFs have fallen off my radar. Voyager Prime, Dropkick, even 2008 Bumblebee never see any playtime, and I loved those figures to death. I don't hate them, I just don't bother with them.

Wreckage and Energon Starscream, however, I used to love, but now I hate. Wreckage is just nigh-unplayable because of his irritating automorph, plus I don't like his colors. Or the fact he's always looking down. Energon Starscream is just a pile of genericness. He completely lacks personality or interesting features. He takes the most boring features of the Seekers, then combines them with some more boring features and attributes. His Hyper mode is meh, and while his ginormous sword is absolute win, I gave it to more deserving characters.

I used to love the headmaster episodes but now I look at them and I'm like wtf the idea is stupid well ok the Japanese idea of having them just being robots is cool but I look at the toys and the only one I really like is chrome dome since some how it survived my childhood with all its parts but I really do not care for fort max and scorpy who just have their size in their favour

I realize that "hate" is a strong word, but it was just something that occurred to me today. I was like, "you know, I really fucking hate Grimlock. He's a big retard who sucks and is ghey." So that's how I did it.

Mostly G1 Grimlock. I had the toy, I used to like him on the show, but... as a concept, as a character, as a anything, he just really annoys the crap out of me.

So what are we talking about here? The toys? The cartoons?

If we're not just relegated to the toys, I will say that I used to like the G1 cartoon, and now find it absolutely unwatchable in every capacity.

I never hated Kup, but Animated Ratchet (and probably age ) has made me much more fond of him.

I've experienced something similar with Rodimus Prime... I used to love him, bitching and all. Now he annoys me. Of course, I was 15 years old when season 3 aired...

I still like a number of them, but I pulled out Rumble and Ravage yesterday and thought "what was I thinking?" and put them in the "DN's 'to sell' pile." Of course, I got both of them by trading SDCC Rodimus away, who was also lame.

If its Jaguar XKR Ravage, you can put that one in the DN's "to sell to ST53" pile.

I can agree with this. I have pretty much one of each mold, but now that the line is done, they just seem in the way as they don't blend with any of my other figures. If I can't find a bigger display case to set them up in along with the MP figures, I may just sell them.

But I'll probably regret that.

As for coming to hate a figure, it hasn't happened. There are some that I've warmed up to, and others that I just don't like, but once I open a figure that makes me happy right off, that feeling always returns when I pick it up again.

Also, outside of a couple(Devistator, PredaKing) I'm not realy a fan of the G1 or Energon combiners. Give me the fun of the Beast Wars/RID combiners anyday. I love how those figures actualy have to transform into eachother as apose to just being a bunch of guys who hang off a larger figure.

I used to absolutely love BW Optimal Optimus. Then one day I thought "Hey... This is stupid and lame and stupid." I also used to ADORE Classics Grimlock. Now the only reason I don't tear him apart for parts is because he's the only Grimlock I have.

I used to have a ton of Alternators / Binaltechs... every now and then I'll miss them, until I actually start thinking about them long enough. Then I go through the same mental process of "no, no, no..." that I always do, where I whittle away the ones I really don't miss. And I usually find that there aren't any left. (Sometimes there are some left, but those are guys like "Smokescreen in G1 colors" and I'm like, oh yeah he doesn't exist.)

No, really, he sucks. His ape and robot mode are all right, but lacking in poseability. His "CAR" and "JET" mode are put in " " for a REASON. If they hadn't made those modes they easily could have done SO much more with him.

On the plus side, I think he was one of the first TF's with ratcheted joints.

I have ALWAYS hated Ultra Magnus... from G1 to current.

But having the MP-02 one is simply melting me. I actually hate to admit, I kinda like him.

I should clarify one point tho... i still hate the 'character' .. as to me he still represents the death of prime which I feel was a collosal mistake.. but I really like the toy.


Otherwise, not a lot of changes. I hated BW's... still do. I loved G1.. still do. I loved realistic car mods best - which has me liking the ALT/BT's - and I still do. I hated the insecticons, allt he gestiles after the constructicons, and still do. I love the dinobots, and still do. I havn't been interested in much of anything between G1 and ALT's, and now the Movie - and that's pretty much the same. I don't like the animation TFers.. and even after watching a few episodes with my son.. I still don't. He'll watch them, but doesn't want any of the toys. A chip off the ole block. lol

Grimlock, definitely. When I was a kid I was all like "he's superpowerful, who cares if he's dumb, he's awesome! PLUS HE'S A DINOSAUR!!!!"
Now I can't stand him, even when he's written at his best (IDW being his best for me, but being the best written Grimlock is like being the most competent official in the Toronto Maple Leafs' front office, it doesn't mean much).

I never really cared for Ironhide until recently actually. Now he's sort of cool in my book.

When it comes to toys, I guess I have to go with Armada Starscream and Movie Bonecrusher.
When Armada 'Screamer came out I was very excited. It was the first Starscream since G2, and I couldn't have been happier to get him. He's still a decent figure in his own right, but the Energon and Classics versions put him to shame IMO.

After I got Movie Bonecrusher transformed into robot mode I was disappointed, thinking "this is it? He looks ugly!"
Fifteen minutes later and I can't put the guy down.

my opinion of the characters has really changed since i haven't seen anything but the movies since i was a kid and watched g-1 after school... but i really don't remember much about the show except autobots win, decepticons retreat.

generally speaking most of the toy start out with a curious interest and either go to meets expectations (which are usually high) or great letdown. let downs include cybertron sound wave and movie barricade.

Alternators were a suprise love, i saw swindle and though why not? i've always wanted a yellow wrangler. now i've got close to 40 of them. they seem grown up enough i can have them at my office at work and still look professional. great conversation starters.

energon starscream was almost a skip. i didn't even want him but my wife lost a bet and had to buy me a transformer and that was the only one on the shelf i didn't have that was even one the radar screen for wanting. now he's in my top 3 of best transformer jets.

armada scavenger... my opinion on him wavers all the time. when ever i unpack him i say "why do i still have this brick?" then i insert his minicon driver (which is an awesome gimmick imho) and hear the engine start (one of the few sounds i like), roll him across the floor and hear his driving noise (another plus) and start to like him again. i transform him and the suck starts again until i make him "walk" and hear him stomp around I think "maybe i'll keep him a while longer." i just hope i decide to sell him before hie rubber treads dry and crack.

This thread is great. I just cut my Alternators collection in half.

I can't say I HATE some, but take Hot Rod, original version at the time was cool. As time went on and the luster of the movie wore off it's kinda weird.

Now that the Classics came out, right down to the cutting wheel hidden in his arm...just gota say the old one is crud compared to the classics!

G1 Grimmy is still better than the rest, so not all classics made better characters or versions.

My real gripe about Grimlock is that he hasn't changed at all in the past few decades (besides the whole BT ALT deal) .. he's always been dumb as a rock (though some would disagree with that) and all of his toys transform almost EXACTLY like the original. I could even say the BT/ALT is almost simular. The only one that stands out for being someone different is Classics Grimlock.. but that one was also crap imho.

I didn't notice how almost all grimlocks are created equal till I busted out TFA Grim and was all like " hes just like a tooned out G1?"

Might be making a bigger deal about this than totally nesicary though.

I just don't think that Grimlock really has any reason to exist apart from being a dinosaur... which is kind of a ghey reason.

I really hate movie Starscream. I tried to like him, I really did. I think I liked him for about 5 seconds through force of will before I just gave up.

All the movie line. Used to be ecstatic about them, but now I don't give a slag since the animated line. I'm planning on selling them all (along with others) on eBay.

Movie Screamer was awesome, I don't think I've ever not liked him except for when I first saw him.

Animated Cybertron Prime, on the other hand, I can't stand. It's not because the mold isn't ten kinds of , it's because the plastic quality is so bad that I fear playing with him 'cause the last time I did he went from virgin plastic to looser than a 35 year old Thai nymphomaniac hooker. I fixed him, but I can tell it won't last.

i use to love blaster don't get me wrong i still like him but i noticed he has a ronald mcdonald look to him its kindof wierd so i now prefer soundwave over blaster.

Well, as far as figures I used to hate that I love now, Universe Prowl is a prime candidate. After I figured out how to transform him without popping off his doors and after I mastered the steep learning curve that is putting him into a stable pose, I love him!
