Full Version: 5.4 Quake Hits Eastern LA

Cadogen
A 5.4 magnitude earthquake shook the eastern area of Los Angeles just before noon today. The epicenter was near the small town of Chino Hills, near San Bernardino, and 8 mi below surface. Originally, it was reported as a 5.8 magnitude, but it fired off a dozen aftershocks measuring as high as 3.8. Although there is no structural damages reported, windows are being reported broken and plaster is cracked. The last major quake for the epicenter's region was in 1987, when a 5.9 magnitude hit. The quake was felt as far away as San Diego and Las Vegas

I've been in an earthquake once, in Taiwan. Wasn't a big one at all, but it gives you a sense of "wow the earth is really big and I'm really small."

I felt it down here in SD, was wondering where it was centered, too lazy to look it up.

My office building has those state of the art ball berring things that allows it to roll with earth quakes.
I'm only on the 3rd floor but it was pretty scary and awesome at the same time.

It was like: Wow, so long as I dont die, this is kinda awesome!

Thank god you are OK. I honestly thought "I hope Hunters OK." when I heard about it. Once I consider someone a mate they are in my heart and mind forever.

Thanks!

Also Johnny Reb's family is out that way (closer than I am to the epicenter) so send love to him as well.

But luckily I don't think there has been any real damage reported.

I will PM him at the Guld Guild and see if he/his family is ok. When he shows up is another question... 07redface.gif

I was in San Bernardino, and what I felt wasn't much, but the people upstairs in my building felt the quake far worse. Nothing fell over. I know some people who live in Chino Hills and the only damage they had were a few broken glasses falling from the cabinet.

Now that everything is known to be ok, the best part of this quake has to be the "Judge Judy" footage that was being shot while the quake went on.

Loved seeing Judy book it out of the studio, and was impressed that the technical director kept taking different camera shots during the quake. I smell a sweeps episode!

*TF Collection is safe*

TFA Prowl was the only figure that fell over.

i thought it was a truck that passed by... (they have a tendency to shake the apt....) but then there was an aftershock that followed after and forsure i knew it was an earthquake. i ran outside with my son and talked to other neighbors outside to see if they were injured or anything... i couldn't imagine what it would it was like in the epicenter... i've been through loma prieta quake in 89 in nor*cal... and now this... and the one back in 89 was waaaaay worse (7.1 compared to 5.4 )

classic bwahaha

and tf collection is safe as well bwahahahaha brawnlaugh.gif

I missed the Loma Prieta quake, family was on vacation in Oregon at the time. However, it did screw up the 'home run' of the trip. We were gonna spend our last day at Marine World Vallejo, but they shut it down as a precaution.

Funny thing, the Loma Prieta quake was also my mom's 30th birthday.... to the day... 10/17/89

I've been thru a few shakers, but the Central Valley doesn't get much excitement. We normally feel some of the jolts that the East Bay get.

I live in San Bernardino and I felt nothing. I did get home after school and found my closet to be a disaster as everything fell and a few tf's on the floor from my shelf as well.
