Restaurant chains Bennigan's and Steak & Ale, both owned by Metromedia Restaurant Group, have announced their intentions to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. On the application, they listed that all assets will be liquidated and all stores closed. This is in contradiction from 2mos ago when Metromedia denied rumors of bankruptcy and closure. Employees were not notified until today about the closures, which take effect immediately.

It's absolutely horrible, and those few who do know are stricken from informing anyone else. A year or two ago, we (my place of employment) were looking at a potential buy-out, not that we notified any of the staff regarding such actions. The sucky part about that, was if the purchase would have went through, the new owners were going to immediately close shop and begin a move to a Los Angeles area facility. I knew about it, but couldn't say anything to my employees/co-workers, even though I knew I may get to work one day and find the doors locked.

Well, in their defense if they were to say "Oh, hey, we're going to file for bankruptcy and close some of our restaurants in two months," they'd probably end up having to close their restaurants sooner because everyone would quit and go look for another job.
What gave me pause was this.
QUOTE
In June, Metromedia Restaurants said it was formulating a proposal to present to its lenders to restructure its debt, but said it was not preparing to file for bankruptcy.
In the filing, the company indicated that it has up to 49 creditors and owes less than $50,000. It said it will have no funds left after administrative expenses are paid to repay its creditors.
I'm hoping that they left off a 0 or two from that figure. If you (as a national family-oriented restaurant) can't scrape together 50 grand to save yourself from bankruptcy...

Yeah, that doesn't sound right. I don't think a company that owned 150 restaurants would even go Chapter 13 over $50K.

For those who don't know, Draught is pronounced Draft. I once, in a bar mind you, ordered a Guinness Draught (read: Draft), the bartender told me they "didn't have that, but they did have Guinness Draught (read: Drought)." It took me quite some effort not to laugh, but that could just be the beer drinker in me...?
FTR: Guinness, at least what I've had here stateside, is a poor example of Stout, there are so many that are so much tastier and thicker. I have been told though that should I ever get an opportunity to try real Irish Guinness, that I would be impressed with that, and it's just their exports that are crap. Generally so...but there are quite a number of really good Belgian Golds (and others, but this is a good example, in general avoid domestic macro-brews, urine in a bottle), that though they are yellow, aren't quite as urine-ish in color, definitely not flavor-wise.
