Republican senator Ted Stevens, who has been in politics for Alaska since before it's statehood in 1960 and one of the longest serving representatives in congress, was indicted on 7 counts of falsifying records concerning his house renovation. A federal investigation has alleged that Stevens has been accepting gifts totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars from oil conglomerate VECO Corp. These gifts include extensive renovation to his Alaska vacation home, furniture and tools. In exchange, Stevens is alleged to have paved the way for VECO to receive several federal grants and funding for overseas projects.
