More timely info from the McCain camp...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGfdhW30ofMCan't imagine why he's so hepped up about off shore drilling. Whether it take's 10 years or 10 months, I don't think he's gonna live long enough to see a result.

He's just being careful. You can't f*ck around with melanoma.
Honestly, I find the whole "McCain is old" narrative to be a bit tiresome. My parents are almost his age and they're not in a nursing home or anything. Hell, look at McCain's mom -- if he's anything like her, he'll be around for another 30 years.

It's funny, though.
But, yeah, it's not a good reason to not vote for someone. Especially when there are so many good reasons not to vote for McCain. Zing!
There are a couple of good reasons to vote for him, too, but admitting that detracts from my "Zing".

I think it's only really ever mentioned because of the contrast with Obama. Now all of a sudden people are realizing that most of our politicians are old, white men.

I just think McCain is funny, cuz he's there because the GOP isn't even trying this cycle. They're hoping to let the Dem's spend four years looking like morons trying, futilely, to pick up the mess Dubya is gonna leave behind.
In four year's they'll front a real candidate, claiming "See Obama couldn't put the toothpaste back in the tube! (Nevermind who squeezed it all out...) Time for, ah... CHANGE! Yeah, that's it. Change!"

It's not like the GOP chose McCain... the voters did, and the GOP was (eventually) (mostly) like, "all right, if you say so." If you recall, his campaign was d.e.a.d. in the water for quite some time.

It was all about the Romney and the Huckabee for a while there. Then, all of a sudden McCain ninja-flipped to the front and everyone was all "Oh yeah, THAT guy."

The REAL GOP votes with their checkbooks. That's who could give a crap.
His campaign has always been dead. He may even have the support of the core conservative vote, but that is not how we select our leaders. We use this stuff called "money". The GOP is saving theirs for an election they want to win.
Lord Madhammer
Jul 29 2008, 08:31 AM
Oh, to be sure, I don't see the GOP being all like "woohoo let's pour all of our money into this campaign." But I think part of that is the conventional wisdom that this will be a Democratic election, especially since the Democratic candidate has the crossover appeal that he does. So I think it's a combination of factors.
Honestly I think Romney is an absolute DUD of a candidate. Huckabee? Well, he seems nice and all, and he sure loves Jesus, but I need something more to work with than that.

I too am tired of the old bashing, mccain is like 10 years younger than my dad and my dad is very very able bodied, the only reason I probably wouldnt vote for my dad for president is he 8th grade education and no knowledge of how the economy works

The fallacy here is the assumption that the republican notion of economy "works".

Well, the obvious answer there is, McCain is barely behind Obama in all the polls right now, without hardly trying. Why waste all that extra money now when it makes no sense to do so. They'll make their big push right before election, when they'll have that much more money to throw into the end of the campaign. It's just logistics really. Now, of course if Obama starts pulling a wider percentage in the polls, they might reverse that strategy and start ramping it up.

IMHO, the only reason why it's close at all right now is that people are still deciding whether or not they're gonna get on the Obama bandwagon.
