Zeta Gundam, the follow up to the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime series, has been condensed into 3 compilation movies. Any Gundam fan should check this out, it features veteran characters like Amuro Ray and Char Aznable. And best of all, it has a lot of new animation. Just check out this trailer.

Full Version: Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
Seen it, back when it was fansubbed. I think I could only stand watching about ten or fifteen minutes worth.
The execution is very lacking. The new animation, mixed with the older animation, made it feel rather cluttered. You'd watch something that was done by hand and with animation cells in the 80s, then see a scene that's like a brand new animation style, very clearly done on the computer. It just ruined the flow. If they added CG effects where they needed to be and bothered to make the art-styles match, I probably wouldn't be so "meh" about it.

I'm actually waiting on Bandai USA to distribute the films, I heard somewhere that they plan to after they finish tossing out the SEED Destiny films and releasing 00. I tried watching the first film on my computer before, but I had a bad copy and lets face it, Gundam is much better on a big screen.
I also heard that the movies were intended to really give Zeta a better ending, unlike Tomino's first stage depression that ended with Untold numbers of death and Kamille's mind becoming totally destroyed and resulting in him being autistic until the end of ZZ Some of which changes acting as a recant of the ZZ series in some parts or just writing the series off as a loss all together. Then again thats all speculation from other sites I've ventured to.

I'm watching the full series right now and the show is pretty hard to swallow. I'm not a fan of most of the cast. The robots look nice. But the story is feeling forced. I'll just finish the series and then pass on the movies.
it basically retcons ZZ (and even char's counterattack to an extent) out of the universal century continuity. which is why i'm wondering if they'll do something similar with zz, which if you didn't like zeta you definitely won't like zz.
I can't say they would, after all, they did do an Evolve of ZZ based on its ending. Then again they also did an Evolve based on Char's Counterattack with an different fate for Quess.

yeah, they did an evolve of almost everything from UC except 08th MS Team (one of my all-time favs), and 0080(one of my least favs).

Been trying to catch up with the Gundam series as a whole. I just finished watching Gundam Seed, and Seed Destiny. Luved them both.
