What a joke this guy is, John Edwards. Maybe they (his real family) can pull off another news conference to gain some sympathy.

Sure he'll be cannon fodder for Ann now.

Lord Madhammer
Yikes. I hadn't really been paying attention to this since it was, ya know, the National Enquirer and stuff. Who knew they could actually be right about something.....

but wow, if that is true, that's like uber-sh*tty. so much for any sympathy he would have gotten b/c of his wife; that's gonna blow up in his face huge.

On the plus side, he's not Obama's running mate laughlol.gif

How can you tell the politician involved in the latest sex scandal is a Democrat?

The scandal doesn't involve him sleeping with another man.

Sorry, the point wasn't "they suck more", it was "so what, this is personal drama that all kinds of people have to deal with."

If John Edwards has an illegitimate kid, that's between him and his family. It's a non-issue, IMO.
Lord Madhammer
Well, you know that that isn't true.

Well, you know that that isn't true.

Why not?

The dude's family is dealing with hard times - cancer and campaigns - and he made a poor choice in looking for a stress release outlet. It happens.

He's got responsibilities he needs to own up to now, and people he needs to make amends with. Let him do it in peace. I don't think we need the inevitable 120 hours of round the clock news and constant update articles on Yahoo!'s front page that we'll now have to endure. His wife doesn't need to deal with cancer and a broken marriage with reporters swarming around them.

Maybe he was trying to bridge the gap between the two Americas?

Maybe he should have invested in some astro glide and and a wireless mouse and keyboard if he wanted to relieve his "stress". That and some contraceptives.

He and his personal (family) life are fair game ever since they brought it out that his wife had cancer during the campain making the spectacle out of it.

As for believing in the N.E. I used to feel the same way until a fellow student in my High School (Littlerock High School, CA. 93-94 I believe) put windex in one of the teachers diet coke, got very sick, he got arrested. Not to long after I was standing in a checkout line and there it was in black and white.

I'm not going to say that how the Edwards handled the cancer thing was a "spectacle"... I've never had a family member with cancer so I can't say what would be the best way to respond to that. Of course, in hindsight Edwards probably should have dropped out then.

There is a difference between something being within the rights of the press to cover and the public acting like gossip crazed fools that makes such coverage profitable.

Dropping out would've been the worst thing he could've done IMO.

And making something public =/= making it a spectacle...

I dunno, it's not like it mattered in the long run.

But I say that as a 2004 supporter of Edwards who, in retrospect, got my support mainly for not looking like Lurch.

This sounds (to me) like yet another issue only Republicans/Conservatives/nosy people care about. I don't care who a politician sleeps with as long as he does his job, just like I don't care who my bus driver sleeps with as long as he drives the bus from pt A to pt B. As such, I would vote for him now just as much as I would have before.

Btw, I don't care any more about who Republican/conservative politicians sleep with either, at least from a "how does this impact their job performance?" perspective. Except since they're the ones who always make the biggest fuss about their precious "family values" and how their opponents lack them, I do find the hypocrisy much more informative in their cases.

Politicians are just employees -- overly compensated, poorly managed employees, with an excessively high proportion of direct impact on the country's welfare -- but employees nonetheless. They can buttfarg Captain Kangaroo for all I care. The only thing that matters is the stock.

truthy.png

I was gonna go my usual route (that I take during ANY sex scandal), and say that whatever two consenting adults choose to do is up to them..... but the timing of this is pretty fucked.

As for cheating on his terminally ill wife; it wouldn't be the first time that a guy has found comfort, and it wouldn't be the first time that a wife has actively encouraged her husband to find comfort. Who knows the story.

I wouldn't do it though, I think that it's pretty much arsehole territory.

Goodbye VP slot! wave.gif

Edit: I was gonna post last night, before fire exit beads entered the discussion wtf1.gif , but my computer crapped out and I'd already had half a bottle of sake. Well, that and my wife just got out of the shower wearing only a towel........

no kidding

Though I was hoping that Edwards wouldn't get it anyway. Obama needs someone who hasn't been... well, in a losing presidential campaign before.

I'm still hoping for Kathleen Sebelius.

IMO, the best thing that could happen in this election is if the winner chooses the loser to be VP. I think most people would like that this time around, and we definitely need a balance of power in washington.

Yeah, if you really want to talk about Edwards stick to his politics, not his personal life. If that's the case, you could always bring up the fact that he likes to hang out with Dictator/Thug Hugo Chavez. That, in and of itself is enough for me to despise him.
Glue
I think it should be less an issue of whether the story is believable and more about whether the story matters to you or not. Even if it's true, they are still immaterial to me.

To be sure, there's a large portion of the population out there to whom it does matter, and thus why such incidents tend to spell the end of a politician's career. But I don't think the population as a whole should permit this segment to project their values onto everyone else.
Lord Madhammer
Of course, John Edwards does not hold public office right now, and is a private citizen.
