QUOTE
It’s a serious situation, but there’s a lot of things we need to do. We have a lot of work to do and I’m afraid that it’s a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq-Pakistan border

The situation that he's mentioning is the fact that Iraq and Pakistan are over a thousand kilometres apart, and are seperated by Iran of all places. sarcasticpelicanlb2.gif

I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he articulated that awfully well.

I like how John Stewart put it- "The Iraq-Pakistan border, also known as IRAN..."

Actually, the thing I appreciate most about him is the fact that he's both a) very well informed and b) isn't answerable to a corporate master, since his show is a "fake" news show... he's got a lot of freedom to say the things that people would want to say themselves. (Such as asking John McCain after his speech at Bob Jones University if the "Straight Talk Express" had made a stop in Bullshit Town.) The humor is a value add to me.

I wonder how Colbert would have been as a VJ back in the '80s/90s...

Wanna see a magic trick?
Smooth Jazz
I was watching Comedy Central a few weeks ago and an oooooold Jon Stewart stand-up special comes on. I mean old like he was making jokes about Barcelona Olympics. Anyway, he prefaced a bit of his by saying, "I don't usually make political jokes. I'm not really a very political guy."

16 years later it's the funniest part of the entire special.

And yes, truthy.png is better.

its like LMH said, all of this is just partisan bickering anyway. do you really have to make a new thread every time Mccain does something you don't agree with?
Stormtrooper53
Hey, maybe we should start two separate threads, one called "I hate McCain" and the other "I hate Obama."

I wonder which one would get more responses?

Well, if people would stop going off on tangents, the threads wouldn't be so long. You're not actually claiming that the majority of any McCain thread is actual McCain discussion are you?

Although you do seem to be implying that thread length is in some way relevant to a judgment call of the candidate.

Generally it's more along the lines of "Here's another incredibly stupid thing he's said that defies the carefully cultivated media image of a straight shooting foreign affairs genius".

It doesn't really make sense to make it sound like I'm going "I disagree with McCain's statement that the country of Iran does not exist".

Maybe we could start threads called

Mistakes, misrepresentations and lies by John McCain
No jokes about things younger than him allowed

Mistakes, misrepresentations and lies by Barack Obama
No joke about Islamic Terrorists

Then we could leave it to merely factual statements related to their various positions and actions rather than rumours and innuendo.

When multiple topics are started on same person, the same day by the same poster though it would be easier to keep track of.

How is that a reason for not discussing the individual point of any single thread? There is no McCain discussion going on, good or bad.

There is no Obama discussion going on, either, FWIW. McCain topics just tend to, for whatever reason, be more prone to tangents.
ROSEDOGGYDOG
one topic (for each canidate) to post all about keeps it nice and tidy, no matter how derailed it get at any given point. It's alot better than having multiple topics floating around doing the same thing, even if its weighs more on one canidate more than the other.

So you would discuss McCain's Border Mix-Up if it were in the same thread as the Vanity Fair Cover or the Ten McCain Gaffes, but not if it's an individual issue?
