a good new robocop movie would kickass, and at the same time be an ironic mockery of the first.

Were there 2 of em? I remember going to Hollywood video several months ago and I noticed 2 or 3 RoboCop movies that I never heard of. I think one was called Meltdown and I think the other, if not the same, had 2 RoboCops.

Four. They all aired in the same week(they were basically a mini series). Sadly, I believe only two of them were put on DVD.

You're boned. Hard.
The only recent Robocop game was on the X-Box, and I cannot find reviews for that damn thing no matter how hard I look(Hell, the only reason I know it exists is because I saw it in Wal-Mart). Given who made it(shotty dev number 5,638, basically), it probably sucks.

Well, if you think about it... RoboCop started out cool and nose-dived... it's being resurrected by an awesome director... kinda sounds like Nolan's Batman to me.
Stormtrooper53
Jul 30 2008, 12:21 PM
Guess they batter cash in quick before "reboot" phase dies out.
It kind of is like Batman, but it kind of isn't. The first Keaton film (which I love) wasn't really an origin story, it kind of picked up with Batman acting as Batman rather than becoming Batman, so Begins (which I also love) was nice because it rebooted the franchise AND became an origin story, so it was still a NEW story.
However, the first RoboCop was an origin story already, as well as being a commentary to American consumerism and the decay of American industry (I'm sure you're aware), which, you know, was relevant in the 80's but not so much now.
I dunno, I'm close-minded and think it will be pretty much PHAIL without Peter Weller and SPF 1,000,000 sunblock.
Lord Madhammer
Jul 30 2008, 12:25 PM
I suppose I should mention that I think the first film was brilliant and didn't need any shitty sequels tarnishing its awesomeness (not just in terms of movie coolness but the satirical elements as well). And I don't really think this movie is necessary at all. Then again, most aren't. But Aronofsky intrigues me... he's not known for obnoxious commercial pieces.
