Anyone remember this guy(s)? It's Punch/Counterpunch, the G1 Doublespy! His wiki http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Punch describes him as a nervous wreck, and I can see why. There's more to this guy than meets the eye! Oh man, that was on the fly, such a horrible rhyme that I could cry.Punch (and/or Counterpunch) was made from a Classics 2 Universe Sunstreaker. Sunstreaker just happens to have arms that can articulate both ways and knees with dual hinges. This means a completly different bot-mode when you spin some parts around. His head was created from a movie Incenerator and Microman head, shaved in half and stuck together. I had to really work on that so the head still slid down into his chest via the transformation gimick. A slick paintjob later and he, er, they were done! Enjoy.

Great work, Jin. Just curious, how did you get the doors to stick at the sides? Whenever I try to get Sunstreaker to do it, one door keeps dropping down beneath his arm, so there they stay.

I recently rewatched the "Rebirth" G1 episodes and forgot how bad Punch/Counterpunch sucked as a character.

"Hey guys, my autobot brother is gonna be nearby. Just lemme step outside the doorway for a sec!"

(two seconds later)

"Haha!! I bet you didn't know I was here!"

Ugh terrible character.

Jin's work is of course awesome as usual though!

I presume that the head is part of Incinerator's head, as I can't really imagine being able to use a whole Voyager-class figure head on a Deluxe-class figure, let alone so it still slides down into the chest. Not that I have Incinerator OR Sunstreaker yet...

nice job on the punch/counter punch custom. it's kinda funny cause I just finished my own custom version of punch/counterpunch. mine is just a repaint of sunstreaker (no remolded head )but I like the way mine turned out. just a suggestion for you , i think would have worked better if you used the rub signs instead of the actual insignia , that way you play up the whole which one is which angle of the charecter.

I just KNEW you would make this Jin! He had it written all over him, didnt he?

If you like obscure bots, how about:

- Movie protoform starscream into either banzaitron or one of the other decepticon actionmasters?

- cybertron smokescreen repaint into Rad (as this is based on him anyway, the work needed would be minimal)

- The rest of the actionmasters (that never featured a transformation in their only original toy form)

- The animorph figs:

- lion as Steeljaw

- bear as chainclaw (the idea being that they have fused with their pretender shells. you could even give them their backpacks and helmets for their beast modes!)

- tiger as Catilla

- wolf as Carnivac

- Three people that become a dinosaur as anyone you want!

ETC

The animorph figs would only require a new head and chest sculpt plus some way to change their "claws for gloves" plus the ridiculous tail-as-an-arm for one of the dinosaur bots.

Awesome job as usual Jin. I just had this thought last night and you beat me to it. Thats ok though I have some other ideas for this mold. One question though how did you get the hands to pop out? I haven't tried yet so I was just wondering how hard it is to pop them out.

Terrible because the writers sucked hard core on that episode. They did a better job for Headmasters

Question Jin: Why did you choose to make the roof chest Punch?

I mean, if you had chosen hood chest, and gone with a subtle orange-to-blue-fade job where the seam was, wouldn't it have looked a lot less random?

I was thinking the same thing... This is a really great piece and it inspired me to possibly create a punch/counterpunch as well...

It's missing the top nub and lower jaw where I made a new mouthplate for him. Other than that it is the same width and hight pretty much.


They slide out from one side but not easily. I just put the arm flat against the table and pushed down hard so the hand popped out. Then I dremelled the inside just a bit so they were easier to remove and switch, but still held in place.


It was my first try honestly. I thought, old G1 look=solid colors. Next time around I'll make the car all blue and use the hidden part of the chest for the yellow as 1987 described there.

job jin! as always Punch/Couterpunch is also a horrible name imo And yeah the character could use some RE-characterization. But your toy is cool none the less

I'm thinking when I do mine I'll be giving him a Redalert style hood stripe. So Punch will still have a mostly yellow chest.
