I'm really disappointed about that... I had hoped it wouldn't have gotten past the house or senate.
Lord Madhammer

INDEED

Obama voting for it pretty much made sure he won't get my vote.

Unless McCain does something equally stupid and slimy.

Like call the Supreme Court's reinstitution of habeas corpus one of the worst decisions ever?

ST53: it basically cuts the nuts out of the FISA court (in the parlance of our times). Which to me, is like... when you have a secret court that is already set up to approve stuff after the fact in recognition that law enforcement agencies might need to act immediately, and THAT isn't good enough for you... well what the hell

the libertarians among us should be screaming right now
I.S.T.
I'd be with them if it wouldn't get banned for sheer vulgarity...
Lord Madhammer
well if you wouldn't go around the swear filter all the time...

*yawn* I mean yeah, I'm against it, but with Obama voting for cloture and him still being my most preferable candidate, what else is there to do? It's not even an issue of "well, now I'll just vote for the other guy", because I see him as infinitely worse.

On a slightly separate train of thought, this is all legal, for all the value that that holds. And I still think it's a lot, but at what point are sufficient people willing to say "the country" over "the existing law"? Either you respect the law or you oppose it in some fashion. If the latter, on what grounds (in our case)? I'm happy letting the country self-destruct if the ultimate power in the nation (the people) legally consent to doing so.

McCain has consistently avoided voting on bills lately, because then he might upset people.

Obama trying to shift to the middle is sarcasticpelicanlb2.gif That's not what got him elected in the primaries, and it's not going to get him elected in November.
I.S.T.
I see nothing wrong with him shifting to the middle somewhat. He is a politician, after all. You have to expect him to do some politician-like things. The frigging FISA bill goes beyond that into power grabbing bullshot.
