Phil Gramm, a longtime friend and financial adviser for Sen John McCain, was criticized by McCain for sharp comments made recently. In a recent interview with The Washington Times, Gramm compared the US to "a nation of whiners" and was quoted as saying that the US is in "a mental recession, not a financial one". Barrack Obama wasted no time using the remarks against McCain.

When confronted about the remarks, McCain replied, "Phil Gramm does not speak for me. I speak for me." Gramm and McCain have been long time friends, and McCain helped Phil Gramm campaign during his presidential run in 2006. Gramm was currently returning the favor by campaigning for McCain. McCain has been criticized for not being strong in economic issues, while Gramm has a strong background in finances and is currently vice chairman of The Swiss Bank UBS. The economy is a hot topic for the upcoming election, with the financial sector in chaos and stagflation taking a hold of the average citizen.

Actually this makes perfect sense, since McCain's economic plan would only have a "psychological" effect anyway. If we could all just sit down and think happy thoughts about the economy, we'd all be fine.
